
Legal Expert
Qualification Requirement: LLB with minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the Power & Energy sector.
1. Position Overview:
The Legal Expert will be responsible for providing legal advisory, contract review, compliance support, regulatory guidance, and risk management assistance for projects and operations within the Power & Energy sector, including generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, power trading, project development, procurement, and regulatory matters.
2. Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidate must possess an LLB degree from a recognised institution.
- Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in legal advisory, litigation support, contract management, regulatory compliance, corporate legal work, or related legal functions within the Power & Energy sector.
- Academic qualification must be from one of the top 15 law institutions ranked under the NIRF India Rankings 2025, Law category.
3. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal opinions and advisory support on electricity laws, energy regulations, power procurement, renewable energy policies, open access, tariff matters, grid connectivity, and contractual obligations.
- Draft, review, vet, and negotiate power purchase agreements, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, transmission or distribution agreements, land-related documents, notices, legal correspondence, and other project documents.
- Support litigation, arbitration, regulatory proceedings, dispute resolution, and case management before courts, tribunals, commissions, and other authorities, including coordination with external counsel where required.
- Assist in compliance monitoring, legal risk assessment, due diligence, licensing, approvals, and interpretation of statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to Power & Energy projects.
- Maintain legal records, case files, contract repositories, and compliance documentation in an organised and auditable manner.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal implications of project development, procurement, land acquisition, environmental clearances, regulatory filings, contracts, employment, and policy-related matters.
- Prepare briefs, reports, legal notes, and presentations for management review and decision-making.
4. Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of Indian legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to the Power & Energy sector.
- Excellent drafting, interpretation, research, and analytical skills.
- Ability to identify legal risks and recommend practical mitigation measures.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, professional ethics, and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in legal research tools, Microsoft Office, contract management, regulatory filing support, document management, and compliance tracking.
5. Academic Qualification / Degree Requirement:
Candidates must hold an LLB degree from any of the following top 15 institutions in the NIRF India Rankings 2025: Law category.

6. Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant legal experience after completion of LLB.
- Experience in power purchase agreements, EPC or O&M contracts, regulatory compliance, project due diligence, litigation coordination, policy interpretation, land-related legal support, or legal advisory will be preferred.
- Experience in power generation, renewable energy, transmission, distribution, power trading, utilities, infrastructure, public sector, regulatory, or consulting environments may be considered relevant based on the role requirement.
7. Selection Criteria:
- Educational qualification and institution ranking as per NIRF India Rankings 2025: Law category.
- Relevance and depth of professional legal experience in the Power & Energy sector.
- Quality of legal drafting, contract review, regulatory research, interpretation, and advisory capability in energy-related matters.
- Ability to manage multiple legal matters within timelines and maintain confidentiality.
- Performance in interview, written assessment, case analysis, or document drafting test, if applicable.

9. Reporting and Work Arrangement:
The Legal Expert may report to the Head of Legal, Compliance Head, Project Head, Regulatory Affairs Head, or any other designated authority. The position may require coordination with internal departments, external legal counsel, regulators, project teams, contractors, utilities, consultants, and other stakeholders as required.
