Legal Counsel - NBFC

This role is responsible for handling all legal matters related to collections and recoveries for consumer finance. The purpose is to strengthen and structure legal actions as the collections portfolio grows.

Key Responsibilities (in brief):

- Create and update legal process notes as per laws and business needs.

- Hire, train, and manage external advocates and legal vendors.

- Act as the single point of contact for legal guidance to Collections and Recovery teams.

- Ensure regulatory and legal compliance in agreements, documents, and processes.

- Initiate and defend legal cases (consumer cases, recovery matters, NCLT, RERA, arbitration, Section 138 NI Act, civil & criminal cases).

- Maintain MIS and records of all legal cases involving customers.

Challenges:

- Keeping up with frequent legal and regulatory changes.

- Managing multiple matters with tight timelines.

- Coordinating effectively with business teams and external counsels.

Decision-Making Authority:

- Approving legal deviations in filing cases.

- Ensuring regulatory compliance.

- Taking independent legal calls with guidance when required.

Interactions:

- Internally with business heads, senior management, and legal leadership.

- Externally with lawyers, legal panels, vendors, and counterparties.

Eligibility:

- Law graduate (LLB / BA LLB / BCom LLB)

- 10+ years of experience in legal roles, preferably in consumer loans/finance
