Job Title: Assistant Manager/Manager - Legal Compliance Location: Lower Parel, Mumbai Reporting To: Head - Legal Overview: We are looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to join our Legal & Compliance team as an Assistant Manager / Manager - Legal Compliance. This role is pivotal to ensuring that the company remains compliant with all applicable laws and regulations across our business operations, including physical retail stores, e-commerce platforms, data privacy, and product packaging and declarations. This high-impact role requires deep regulatory understanding, hands-on compliance execution, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to enable business continuity, alignment of processes to compliance and risk mitigation. Key Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance Framework & Governance: - Design, implement, and monitor a robust compliance framework for the company. - Track legal and regulatory developments that impact business operations; proactively advise relevant teams on required changes. - Maintain the organisations internal compliance policy repository and ensure timely updates based on legal amendments. - Support the development and rollout of SOPs and checklists for compliance teams and operational stakeholders. Data Privacy Compliance: - Drive compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, GDPR and other privacy-related regulations. - Review and enhance data lifecycle practicescollection, processing, storage, and disposalacross systems and vendors. - Collaborate with IT, marketing, and customer experience teams to implement privacy policies, cookie consent banners, data subject rights processes, and breach protocols. - Conduct regular privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and vendor due diligence. Retail Store Compliance: - Ensure compliance with statutory obligations under the Shops and Establishments Act (across states), Labour laws (PF, ESIC, PT, Gratuity), Local Municipal and Fire Safety Licenses, POS display requirements and customer notices. - Monitor and manage renewals, inspections, and documentation across all store locations. - Liaise with store operations to embed compliance practices into store processes. Legal Metrology Compliance: - Oversee compliance with the Legal Metrology Act and associated rules regarding: Packaging labels, Product declarations, and E-commerce display standards. - Conduct routine audits of product packaging and online listings to verify statutory declarations. - Coordinate with design, packaging, and merchandising teams to ensure error-free labelling. E-commerce and Online Business Compliance: - Ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, IT Act, FSSAI (if applicable), and similar sectoral regulations. - Review and monitor online platforms (web, app, marketplaces) for: Accuracy in seller disclosures, Consumer grievance redressal mechanisms, Terms and Conditions, Return/Refund policies, and other statutory displays. - Collaborate with tech, digital marketing, and product teams to mitigate legal exposure on digital platforms. Licensing, Filings, and Liaison: - Manage timely application, renewal, and maintenance of all statutory and regulatory licenses required for business operations. - Handle periodic regulatory filings and compliance certifications, maintaining audit-ready records. - Serve as the point of contact for liaising with regulators, inspectors, and external counsel during audits or legal reviews. 7. Training, Audits, and Risk Monitoring - Conduct regular internal audits and gap assessments across business units. - Deliver compliance training and awareness programs to functional teams, store managers, and leadership. - Create dashboards, reports, and risk trackers for management reporting and board-level governance. Qualifications & Experience: Education: - A Bachelors Degree in Law (LL.B) is mandatory. - Additional certifications in corporate compliance, data privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPM), or company secretarial work are a plus. Experience: - Minimum of 10 to 12 years in a legal or compliance role, with at least 3 to 4 years of core experience managing legal compliance for a retail, FMCG, or Luxury brand. - Proven experience in handling regulatory audits and dealing with government authorities. Skill Set: - Excellent knowledge of the Indian legal and regulatory framework: labour laws, data privacy, metrology, corporate, and e-commerce regulations. - Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and manage deadlines. - High attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to translate legal language into practical business steps. - Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement capability.
