Summary:
- Discovery Global is seeking a visionary and results-driven Head of International Controller to lead and transform accounting operations across the EMEA, LATAM, and APAC regions.
- This executive will oversee the non-US controllership functions for the organization including statutory reporting.
- Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer, the SVP will be a key architect of global financial governance, operational excellence, and strategic enablement.
Responsibilities:
Global Controllership Strategy & Leadership:
- Define and execute the international controllership strategy aligned with Discovery Global's business priorities and growth agenda.
- Lead regional controllership teams across EMEA, LATAM and APAC, fostering a high-performance culture and strong financial stewardship in support of US GAAP and statutory reporting.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Accounting Officer and senior leadership on international financial matters.
Business Unit Financial Oversight:
- Oversee financial operations for all international business units.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, revenue recognition, and cost management across diverse business models and geographies.
- Partner with commercial and content leaders to support strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and performance optimization.
Statutory Reporting & Regulatory Compliance:
- Own statutory reporting across the regions, ensuring compliance with local laws, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- Lead relationships with external auditors, regulators, and local authorities to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Monitor and implement changes in international accounting standards (IFRS, US GAAP, and local GAAP) and ensure consistent application across regions.
Operational Excellence & Transformation:
- Drive global standardization, automation, and digitization of accounting processes and controls.
- Lead finance transformation initiatives, including ERP optimization, shared services/capability center expansion, and process reengineering.
- Establish and maintain a robust internal control environment, including SOX compliance and risk mitigation strategies.
Strategic Finance & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and Audit to ensure cohesive financial planning, reporting, and governance.
- Support M&A activity, including due diligence, integration planning, and post-close financial alignment.
- Influence global headcount planning, organizational design, and resource allocation to support business agility and efficiency.
Leadership & Talent Development:
- Build and mentor a diverse, globally distributed team of accounting professionals.
- Champion talent development, succession planning, and leadership capability across international finance teams.
- Model and drive department agility through a culture of continuous process improvement and change management.
- Encourage collaboration and productive relationships across teams.
Experience:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in global finance and controllership, including executive leadership roles.
- Proven track record of leading complex, multi-regional accounting operations in a matrixed organization.
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, statutory reporting, financial governance, and international accounting standards.
- Strong understanding of media, entertainment, and digital content business models.
- Experience with ERP and consolidation systems (e.g., SAP, ) and financial reporting platforms.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated success in process optimization and improvement
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's or MBA preferred.
- CPA, CA, or equivalent international accounting certification.
Knowledge/Skills:
- High technical accounting skills with history of working in large public company environments
- Problem-Solving skills, ability to solve highly complex problems as they arise and mitigate risks early.

Other Requirements:
- Prior experience reporting to a Chief Accounting Officer or equivalent executive.
- Familiarity with global content licensing, digital platforms, and sports media .
- Experience managing headcount planning, cost optimization, and organizational design across regions
