Position Summary
As the Associate Director Supply Chain, you will be a strategic and operational leader driving performance excellence across critical supply chain domains. This role encompasses end-to-end ownership of production planning, inventory management, warehouse operations, logistics, customer fulfillment, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the highest levels of efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
You will play a pivotal role in aligning site-level execution with global supply chain strategies, ensuring product availability, optimizing resources, and supporting business continuity in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Supply Chain Leadership
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies that align with overall business goals.
- Lead site-level planning, resource allocation, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Translate corporate goals into actionable site strategies to improve OTIF (On-Time In-Full) metrics.
2. Production Planning & Demand Fulfillment
- Oversee the translation of customer orders into optimized production schedules.
- Ensure synchronization between sales forecasts, production capacity, and raw material availability.
- Proactively manage open orders and resolve bottlenecks to maintain timely order fulfillment.
3. Inventory Management
- Lead age-wise inventory reviews, define liquidation strategies, and monitor shelf-life risks.
- Establish inventory norms aligned with LBE (Latest Best Estimate) and AOP (Annual Operating Plan).
- Drive system accuracy, cycle counts, and root cause analysis of variances.
4. Warehouse Operations
- Ensure efficient and compliant warehouse operations, including storage, safety, and equipment utilization.
- Enforce Good Warehousing Practices (GWP) and statutory/quality compliance requirements.
- Optimize layout and material flow to reduce handling time and cost.
5. Distribution & Global Logistics
- Manage the end-to-end logistics network including shipment routing, international coordination, and export documentation.
- Ensure timely dispatch of finished goods to domestic and global customers.
- Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and regulatory teams.
6. Customer Relationship & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key interface between supply chain, commercial, production, and regulatory teams.
- Maintain high customer satisfaction through reliability, transparency, and proactive communication.
- Resolve escalations and ensure consistent alignment with service level agreements.
7. Compliance & Documentation
- Drive compliance with cGMP, EHS, quality, and global regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all supply chain activities are aligned with internal SOPs and global best practices.
- Lead or support audits (internal, external, and regulatory).
8. Data Analytics & Performance Reporting
- Provide regular MIS, KPI dashboards, and analytical insights for executive leadership.
- Leverage forecasting tools, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and advanced analytics for data-driven decisions.
- Support S&OP and financial planning through accurate scenario analysis and projections.
9. Financial Oversight
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, cost centers, and operational expenditures.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives across logistics, warehousing, and inventory holding.
10. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a cross-functional team of supply chain professionals.
- Foster a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Promote training, succession planning, and capability building at all levels.
Qualifications
Education:
- B.E. / B.Tech. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
- Postgraduate degree in Supply Chain Management / Operations / MBA preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, preferably in API or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Proven leadership of cross-functional teams in a matrixed, regulated environment
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Expertise in planning tools, warehouse management systems, and logistics platforms
- Familiarity with cGMP, GDP, EHS, and global trade compliance standards
Soft Skills:
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, global, and cross-cultural environment
