Duties:
- The Technical Manager - Engineering Design & Production Order Support is responsible for end-to-end ownership of assigned engineering workstreams and product lines within a Global Business Services (GBS) operating model.
- The role leads a team delivering complex production engineering orders, engineering change management, and product design activities related to truck bodies and associated mechanical systems.
- This position goes beyond engineering support to include process ownership, delivery accountability, capacity management, while serving as the primary liaison between the India Shared Services Centre (SSC) and onshore engineering business units.
- The role plays a key part in enabling the pitcher-catcher model, scaling India SSC capabilities, and driving operational excellence aligned with enterprise strategy.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Governance:
- Provide technical direction and oversight for high-complexity production engineering orders and non-standard product configurations.
- Maintain product standards, engineering best practices, and design guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
- Guide design validation activities, and problem-solving initiatives.
- Drive standardization, repeatability, and scalability of engineering processes transitioned to India SSC
- Be accountable for scope, quality, timelines, and outcomes of engineering deliverables, not just task execution
- Serve as a technical escalation point for offshore team for critical and cross-functional engineering issues.
Team Management & Mentorship:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers and designers.
- Capacity planning & allocation of work based on load, set priorities, and monitor performance against project timelines and quality targets.
- Foster a collaborative, hands-on engineering culture focused on accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Conduct technical reviews, performance evaluations, and competency development planning.
- Build a strong talent pipeline through mentoring, upskilling, and succession planning.
Project & Process Management:
- Own capacity planning, talent pipeline building, competency development, work load balancing, and resource utilization and optimization for assigned engineering scope.
- Planning, scheduling, conflict management, risk management, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, Team building, KPI tracking and quality assurance.
- Track and manage value-oriented KPIs such as productivity, cycle time, utilization, quality, and cost efficiency, and aligning with business and strategic objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes, documentation standards, and workflow efficiency.
- Ensure robust governance, reporting, and operational cadence with stakeholders.
Quality, Compliance & Documentation:
- Oversee data accuracy within engineering systems and product lifecycle tools.
- Promote root-cause analysis and corrective action for quality or delivery deviations.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance methodologies including FMEA, DFM/DFA, DOE, and GD&T reviews.
- Ensure documentation standards, traceability, and audit readiness.
Qualifications and other requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related Engineering discipline (master's preferred).
- Overall 12+ years of progressive experience in design/production engineering, preferably in truck body or heavy equipment manufacturing.
- Minimum 5 years of Managerial, and Project management experience is required.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex engineering projects, with prior experience with a GBS (Shared Services) model
- In-depth knowledge of truck body design elements, manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong proficiency in 2D/3D CAD and drafting/design software.
- Advanced understanding of engineering principles including Data Analysis, DOE, GD&T, FMEA, DFM/DFA.
- Proven ability to resolve complex engineering challenges independently and guide others.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and engineering data management systems.
- Product knowledge with both breadth and depth across multiple configurations and variants.
- PMP certification is an added advantage but not mandatory.
- Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent certification preferred
