Job Summary:

- The Tariff Consultant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tariff and trade regulations between countries, optimizing duty drawback opportunities, and minimizing tariff-related costs for the organization.

- This role requires expertise in tariff classification, customs regulations, trade compliance, and duty recovery processes.

- The consultant will collaborate with supply chain, legal, and finance teams to ensure seamless tariff management and strategic cost savings.


Key Responsibilities:


Tariff and Trade Compliance:


- Analyse the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) for accurate classification of goods to ensure compliance with different countries trade regulations.

- Monitor and interpret updates to trade policies, tariffs, and customs duties and recommend strategies for - compliance and cost optimization.

- Advise on rules of origin, valuation, and country-specific trade requirements for imports and exports.

Duty Drawback Management:

- Develop and manage duty drawback programs, ensuring compliance to regulations.

- Prepare and file duty drawback claims, including tracking exports and imports to substantiate claims.

- Partner with customs brokers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate duty recovery.

Strategic Trade Cost Optimization:

- Identify and implement strategies to mitigate tariff costs, such as tariff engineering, free trade agreements (FTAs), and alternative sourcing.

- Conduct cost-benefit analyses of tariff scenarios, advising on the impact of tariffs on pricing and profitability.

- Optimize supply chain flows to reduce tariff exposure while maintaining operational efficiency.

Audits and Risk Management:

- Lead internal audits to assess compliance with customs and trade regulations.

- Prepare responses to inquiries and audits from customs authorities, mitigating any potential risks or penalties.

- Maintain detailed records and documentation for audits, claims, and compliance purposes.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Training:

- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on tariff classification, compliance requirements, and drawback processes.

- Liaise with government agencies, trade associations, and legal advisors to stay informed about policy changes and best practices.

- Act as the primary point of contact for tariff-related inquiries and initiatives.


Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's/ Master's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Business, or related field.

- 5+ years of experience in tariff classification, trade compliance, or customs processes

- In-depth knowledge of US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) duty drawback regulations.

- Familiarity with Section 301 tariffs, antidumping (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD), and free trade agreements.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in data management and trade software.


Preferred Skills:


- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification.

- Experience with tariff mitigation strategies, such as first-sale rule and transfer pricing
