Job Description - Statutory Compliance Lead (Mid-Senior Level)
Location: Mumbai (BKC Centre)

Role Overview
Our Client is seeking an experienced Company Secretary (CS) with 12-15 years of strong statutory and regulatory compliance experience to independently lead and oversee compliance management for the Group's diverse business verticals, including steel, cement, energy, infrastructure, paints, ports, mining, and other expanding sectors.
This is a key individual contributor position, where the candidate will serve as the primary owner and subject-matter expert for statutory compliance across the organisation. The role requires a professional with deep knowledge of multi-jurisdictional regulations, strong process orientation, and the ability to partner effectively with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive enterprise-wide compliance excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitoring & Tracking Legal and Regulatory Requirements
- Stay updated on all central, state, and local laws applicable across the Group entities.
- Track amendments, notifications, circulars, and new regulations impacting various business verticals.
2. Compliance Management & Documentation
- Create, maintain, and periodically update statutory compliance registers and trackers.
- Ensure structured documentation across company law, labour laws, environmental laws, industrial regulations, safety norms, tax compliance, and sector-specific statutes.
3. Timely Filings & Regulatory Submissions
- Oversee and ensure error-free filings and statutory submissions across MCA/ROC, SEBI, Labour Departments, Environmental Boards, and other regulatory bodies.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure adherence to compliance timelines.
4. Licences, Permissions & Approvals
- Lead end-to-end management of licences, approvals, and renewals required for the firms operations across all plants and business lines.
- Establish strong controls to ensure no lapse in statutory permissions.
5. Internal Compliance Audits
- Conduct and drive periodic compliance audits across all units.
- Identify gaps and non-compliances; design and implement corrective and preventive actions.
6. Vertical-Wise Compliance Coordination
- Partner with diverse units - steel, cement, energy, ports, mining, manufacturing - to understand regulatory requirements for each domain.
- Build tailored compliance frameworks for each vertical.
7. Advisory & Operational Support
- Advise senior business teams on statutory requirements for new projects, expansions, and ongoing operations.
- Provide clarity on obligations under labour, industrial, environmental, and manufacturing laws.
8. Handling Notices, Audits & Inspections
- Lead responses to government notices, queries, and show-cause communications.
- Serve as the primary liaison during regulatory audits and inspections.
9. Risk Management & Compliance Controls
- Identify enterprise-wide compliance risks and recommend mitigations.
- Develop policies, SOPs, compliance checklists, and monitoring mechanisms.
10. Reporting & Senior Management Updates
- Prepare compliance dashboards, reviews, and periodic reports for GGC and leadership.
- Highlight risk areas, critical statutory deadlines, and upcoming regulatory changes.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Qualified Company Secretary (CS) - Mandatory.
- 12-15 years of strong experience in statutory and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with large conglomerates, manufacturing/industrial organisations, or multi-vertical businesses is preferred.
- In-depth understanding of company law, labour laws, industrial laws, environmental and safety regulations, and plant operations.
- Strong documentation, coordination, and compliance management skills.
- Ability to independently lead compliance responsibilities in a fast-paced, diversified business environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
