Senior Legal Counsel (General Counsel Track) | Canadian Pharma Company | Ahmedabad/Hyderabad

It is the Indian subsidiary, supporting global operations with a growing footprint in legal, regulatory, R&D, and commercial functions. As the company continues to expand in India, we are looking to hire a Senior Legal Counsel who will eventually evolve into the General Counsel for India operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice across all business functions - commercial, regulatory, labor/employment, intellectual property, data privacy, and compliance.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including vendor, distributor, licensing, manufacturing, R&D, and technology contracts.
- Regulatory Support: Work closely with global and local regulatory teams to ensure compliance with Indian and international pharmaceutical regulations.
- Litigation & Dispute Management: Liaise with external counsel and manage ongoing litigation and pre-litigation matters.
- Risk Management & Compliance: Proactively identify legal risks and implement policies and processes to mitigate exposure; ensure the business operates within the legal and ethical framework.
- Cross-border Collaboration: Work closely with the Canadian legal and leadership teams on group-level strategic initiatives and legal frameworks.
- Leadership Evolution: Over time, take on broader responsibilities with the goal to transition into the General Counsel - India, with oversight on legal, compliance, and governance matters.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Qualifications: LL.B or equivalent from a reputed Indian university; LL.M or international exposure is a plus.
- Experience: 7-10 years of post-qualification experience in a reputed law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably in the pharma, life sciences, or healthcare sectors.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Indian contract, corporate, and regulatory law
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Sound business judgment and ability to work independently
- Experience working in cross-border environments with global stakeholders
