
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and commercially astute Advocate with 5-8 years of experience in the Power, Energy, Infrastructure, and Construction Engineering sectors. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in advising on and executing large-scale projects, drafting and negotiating complex contracts, and supporting clients across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Advisory & Execution
- Advise clients on infrastructure, power, oil & gas, and renewable energy projects across various stages (bidding, development, execution, and closure).
- Provide legal support on project structuring, risk allocation, and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with developers, EPC contractors, lenders, and government authorities.
2. Contract Drafting & Negotiation
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including:
- EPC Contracts (Engineering, Procurement & Construction)
- O&M Agreements (Operations & Maintenance)
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- Fuel Supply Agreements
- Concession Agreements
- Joint Venture / Shareholders' Agreements
- Identify and mitigate contractual risks and ensure alignment with commercial objectives.
3. Regulatory & Compliance Advisory
Advise on applicable laws and regulations governing the power and energy sector, including:
- Electricity laws and policies
- Environmental and land-related regulations
- Sector-specific guidelines and compliance requirements
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and assist in obtaining approvals, licenses, and permits.
4. Transaction Support
- Support M&A, investments, and project financing transactions in the infrastructure and energy sector.
- Conduct legal due diligence for projects and assets.
- Assist in preparing transaction documents and closing deliverables.
5. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Independently handle client interactions and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including consultants, engineers, and financial advisors.
Key Requirements
- Qualification: LL.B. (3-year or 5-year course) from a recognized institution; LL.M. is a plus
- Experience: 5-8 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal team
- Demonstrated experience in power, energy, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects
- Strong exposure to contract drafting and negotiations
- Experience in handling end-to-end project work is highly preferred
- Exposure to project finance or transactional work is an advantage
