Description:

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptionally experienced and highly qualified Safety Head to take full ownership of site safety operations for a prestigious, large-scale high-rise construction project in Mumbai. This leadership role demands a seasoned professional with a strong background in large building projects and a proven track record of establishing, implementing, and rigorously monitoring safety management systems in alignment with international best practices and local statutory requirements.

The Safety Head will be responsible for creating a world-class safety culture and ensuring zero incidents throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Safety Leadership:

- Develop, implement, and rigorously monitor a comprehensive Site Safety Management System tailored to high-rise construction risks, ensuring compliance with both local regulations and international best practices.

- Act as the final authority on all safety-related matters on site, driving a proactive, preventative approach to risk management.

- Establish a zero-incident culture and lead by example in all safety initiatives.

Operational Management & Monitoring:

- Oversee all daily site safety activities, including job safety analysis (JSA), pre-task planning, safety inspections, and toolbox talks.

- Develop and implement specific safety protocols for high-risk activities common in high-rise construction, such as working at heights, formwork and scaffolding, heavy lifting, and material handling.

- Conduct regular site audits and inspections to identify and address non-compliance immediately.

Compliance & Reporting:

- Ensure absolute compliance with all Indian statutory requirements, including the Factories Act (where applicable) and local regulatory bodies.

- Manage the accident/incident investigation process, identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

- Prepare and present detailed safety performance reports, metrics (KPIs), and trend analyses to project leadership and stakeholders.

Training & Development:

- Design and conduct mandatory safety training and induction programs for all employees, subcontractors, and visitors, focusing specifically on high-rise hazards.

- Lead and manage the entire site safety team, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluation.

Cross-Functional Coordination:

- Work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Head, Engineering teams, and sub-contractors to integrate safety planning into construction sequencing and methodology from the earliest stages.

- Liaise with external agencies, clients, and regulatory bodies regarding safety performance and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Experience: 18+ years of total experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) roles, with a significant portion dedicated to large-scale, high-rise building construction projects.

Education: Any Engineering Discipline (REGULAR/Full-Time) from a recognized institution.

Certification: Advanced qualification in Industrial Safety (e.g., Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety recognized by a competent authority) is mandatory. International certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) is highly preferred.

Technical Expertise:

- Deep, demonstrable expertise in safety management specific to high-rise/skyscraper construction.

- Proven experience in establishing, implementing, and monitoring safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001 or equivalent standards).

- In-depth knowledge of Indian statutory safety laws and regulations applicable to construction sites.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate a large safety team and influence the behavior of a diverse workforce (direct and contracted labor) to achieve world-class safety standards.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting, training, and liaising with senior management and external stakeholders.
