Role Overview:
As the Deputy HOD Accounts for our Nigeria operations, you will be instrumental in overseeing the comprehensive financial health and integrity of the region. This role involves a hands-on approach to managing all accounting functions, ensuring robust financial reporting, and driving strategic financial planning. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Accounts, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams, providing critical financial insights that directly influence business strategy and operational efficiency. Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining stringent internal controls, optimizing cash flow, and ensuring full compliance with local and international financial regulations, thereby safeguarding the company's assets and supporting sustainable growth in a key market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the accounting department for Nigeria operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and local statutory requirements.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements, for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust Internal Control systems to safeguard company assets, ensure data integrity, and mitigate financial risks across all operational processes.
- Drive the annual Budgeting process, working with department heads to establish realistic financial targets, and conduct regular variance analysis to ensure adherence to financial plans.
- Manage the end-to-end Payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate disbursement of salaries, benefits, and statutory deductions in compliance with Nigerian labor laws.
- Implement and refine financial Forecasting models to predict future financial performance, identify potential challenges, and support strategic decision-making.
- Optimize Cash Management strategies, including liquidity planning, working capital management, and foreign exchange exposure, to ensure efficient utilization of funds.
- Ensure strict Compliance with all tax regulations (VAT, WHT, CIT), corporate governance standards, and other relevant statutory obligations in Nigeria.
- Provide expert guidance and support on complex Accounting issues, ensuring adherence to best practices and continuous improvement in financial operations.
- Mentor and develop the local accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, accuracy, and continuous learning.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated expertise in managing comprehensive accounting and financial operations within a dynamic corporate environment, preferably in the technology or energy sectors.
- A qualified CA (Chartered Accountant) with extensive post-qualification experience, possessing a deep understanding of IFRS and Nigerian accounting standards.
- Proven ability to lead and execute accurate Financial Reporting, including the preparation and analysis of complex financial statements and management reports.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with a track record of effective Budgeting, Forecasting, and financial planning.
- Exceptional proficiency in establishing and maintaining robust Internal Control frameworks and ensuring strict regulatory Compliance.
- Hands-on experience with Payroll processing, Cash Management, and optimizing working capital.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with senior leadership, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
- High adaptability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment in Nigeria, demonstrating strong leadership and team development abilities.
