Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide legal counsel on issues specific to the FMCG sector, such as labeling laws, product liability, intellectual property, advertising regulations, and consumer protection.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international laws, including food safety, packaging, and environmental laws.
- Monitor regulatory updates in the FMCG industry and advise on their impact on business operations
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including supplier agreements, distributor contracts, co-packing arrangements, lease agreements for retail outlets, and vendor contracts
- Manage contractual obligations and address disputes efficiently
- Handle consumer complaints, product liability claims, and other litigation matters
- Manage disputes with distributors, suppliers, or regulators and coordinate with external legal counsel as needed
- Oversee the protection of trademarks, copyrights, patents, and other IP assets
- Ensure the enforcement of IP rights, including handling infringement cases
- Ensure proper maintenance of records and filings related to corporate governance, including licenses and certifications required in the FMCG industry
- Support board meetings and ensure compliance with the Companies Act and other applicable regulations
- Collaborate with quality assurance, R&D, and marketing teams to ensure compliance with advertising standards, food safety norms, and labeling regulations
- Represent the company in dealings with regulatory bodies such as FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) or equivalent authorities
- Identify legal risks related to FMCG operations such as recalls, consumer litigation, and supply chain issues, and propose mitigation strategies
- Conduct compliance audits and training programs for internal stakeholders
Desired skills/experience:
- 5-6 years of work experience in FMCG industry with strong understanding of laws and regulations, including consumer laws, competition laws, and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) is mandatory. A Master's degree (LLM) or equivalent specialization will be an advantage
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in handling intellectual property matters, particularly trademarks
- High degree of ownership, result orientation, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams."
