
1. Position Overview:
- The Unit Head is responsible for leading end-to-end operations of the Agrochemical manufacturing unit, ensuring safe, compliant, cost-effective, and efficient production.
- The role includes oversight of production, maintenance, EHS, quality, supply chain, manpower management, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- The Unit Head acts as the overall custodian of plant performance, productivity, and stakeholder coordination.
2. Key Responsibilities:
A. Plant Operations & Production Management:
- Ensure achievement of monthly and annual production targets (output, yield, OEE).
- Monitor process parameters, batch performance, and ensure adherence to SOPs.
- Optimize production cost, energy usage, and raw material consumption.
B. Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance:
- Ensure 100% compliance with all EHS standards, GPCB norms, and statutory regulations
related to agrochemical industry.
- Drive initiatives on Zero Harm, near-miss reporting, risk assessment, HAZOP, and process safety management.
- Ensure timely renewal of licenses, consents, audits, and documentation.
- Oversee waste management, effluent treatment plant (ETP), hazardous waste disposal, and pollution control norms.
C. Quality Assurance & Regulatory:
- Ensure product quality as per BIS, FAO, FCO, and customer specifications.
- Review batch failurbes, deviations, and implement corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).
- Coordinate with QA/QC for GMP, ISO, and customer audits.
D. Maintenance & Reliability:
- Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery.
- Ensure equipment reliability, minimum downtime, and asset health monitoring.
- Review maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and long-term reliability improvement
plans.
E. Supply Chain, Inventory & Cost Control:
- Monitor RM/PM availability, planning, and inventory control.
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and warehousing for smooth operations.
- Drive cost reduction projects: energy, utilities, manpower, inventory, yield improvement.
F. HR & Administration:
- Drive performance management, skill development, and multi-skilling at shop floor.
- Ensure harmonious industrial relations with unions, labour contractors, and local community.
G. Continuous Improvement & Projects:
- Lead plant expansion, modernization, technology transfer, and Greenfield/Brownfield projects.
H. Stakeholder Management:
- Liaison with government authorities, local bodies, community representatives, and statutory departments.
- Coordinate with corporate office teams for reporting, approvals, and strategic planning.
I. Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and decision-making capability
- Deep knowledge of agrochemical manufacturing (Technical / Formulation / Pesticides)
- Sound understanding of EHS, PSM, ISO, statutory compliance
- Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage large teams and multi-department coordination
- Strong planning, budgeting, and resource management skills
J. Qualification & Experience:
- B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering (mandatory)
- Preferably MBA in Operations / Management (added advantage)
- 18-25 years of experience in Chemical/Agrochemical/Pesticide manufacturing
- Minimum 5-8 years in leadership role as Plant Head / Unit Head
- Experience handling GPCB, Factory Act, Hazardous Chemicals Rules, and EHS audits
- Having experience of handling multiple plant is an added advantage.
