
ROLE SUMMARY
As the Manager - Payroll & Compliance, you will be responsible for end-to-end payroll management, statutory compliance, and process automation for India operations. You will work closely with finance, legal, and HR teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for all employees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Management:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 900+ employees across multiple locations in India
- Validate and process payroll inputs: attendance, leave, new hires, terminations, incentives, bonuses, and reimbursements
- Coordinate with finance for salary disbursement, tax calculations, and cost center allocations
- Drive payroll automation and HRMS implementation projects
- Manage Full & Final (F&F) settlements and exit formalities within defined TATs
- Prepare monthly payroll reports, reconciliations, and MIS dashboards
Statutory Compliance:
- Ensure 100% compliance with all applicable Indian labour laws including:
- Provident Fund (PF)
- Employees' State Insurance (ESIC)
- Professional Tax (PT)
- Labour Welfare Fund (LWF)
- TDS on salaries
- Gratuity Act
- Bonus Act
- Contract Labour (R&A) Act
- Shops & Establishments Act
- POSH Act
- File monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory returns within prescribed deadlines
- Liaise with government authorities (PF, ESIC, Labour Department) for inspections, assessments, and query resolution
- Manage internal and external statutory audits, ensuring all records are audit-ready
- Stay updated on changes in labour laws and ensure timely implementation
Process Improvement & Automation:
- Develop and implement HR policies, SOPs, and payroll process documentation
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization
- Collaborate with the HRIS team to enhance payroll systems and reporting capabilities
- Ensure data integrity and confidentiality across all payroll and compliance processes
Stakeholder Management:
- Partner with HRBPs, finance, legal, and vendors to ensure seamless operations
- Address employee queries related to payroll, taxation, and statutory deductions
- Support the finance team during audits and financial closures
- Coordinate with external consultants and government agencies as required
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- 8+ years of experience in payroll management and statutory compliance (preferably in tech/IT/SaaS companies)
- Strong knowledge of Indian labour laws and statutory regulations
- Hands-on experience with payroll software (SAP, ADP, Zoho, Darwinbox, Spine, etc.)
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
- Experience with HRIS implementation and automation projects
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Audit and vendor management experience
