Job Title: Head of HEMM


Objective of the Role:


- The Head of HEMM is responsible for the overall strategic management, maintenance, utilization, and cost control of the companys fleet of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (e.g., excavators, dump trucks, dozers, loaders, graders).


- The core objective is to maximize equipment availability and reliability while optimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to meet demanding project execution or production targets safely and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:


I. Fleet Operations and Utilization:


- Equipment Availability: Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as equipment Availability, Utilization, MTBF, and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), implementing continuous improvement initiatives based on data.


- Fuel & Lubes Control: Implement stringent controls and monitoring systems for fuel and lubricant consumption, identifying and addressing areas of inefficiency or pilferage.


- Fleet Planning (CAPEX/OPEX): Collaborate with the finance and operations teams on Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning for new equipment procurement, trade-ins, and major component overhauls (e.g., engine replacements).


- Life Cycle Management: Manage the entire asset life cycle, making data-driven decisions on when to repair, refurbish, or retire equipment for optimal economic benefit.


II. Maintenance and Reliability Management


- Maintenance Strategy: Develop, implement, and lead the overall Preventive, Predictive, and Corrective Maintenance (PPM) programs for the entire HEMM fleet to minimize breakdownsand maximize Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).


- Diagnostic & Repair: Oversee and manage the workshops and field service teams, ensuring rapid and accurate diagnosis and repair of complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures.


- Spare Parts Management: Direct the planning, budgeting, and control of critical spare parts inventory and consumables to ensure immediate availability while avoiding excess stocking costs.


- Technical Standards: Establish and enforce the highest standards for maintenance quality, ensuring all work complies with OEM specifications, safety regulations, and industry best practices.


III. Safety, Compliance, and Leadership


- HSE Compliance: Ensure all HEMM operations and maintenance activities strictly adhere to company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and all statutory regulations (e.g., mining or construction safety laws).


- Team Leadership: Lead, train, mentor, and motivate a large team of technicians, mechanics, supervisors, and operators, fostering a culture of safety, skill development, and accountability.


- Vendor Management: Manage service contracts, warranty claims, and technical support relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and major component suppliers.


- Budget Control: Prepare, manage, and control the annual maintenance budget (OPEX) and CapEx for the HEMM department.


Required Qualifications and Skills:


- Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or a related technical field is typically required.


- Experience: Minimum 18+ years of progressive experience in maintenance and management of large heavy equipment fleets, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership (Head/General Manager) role, preferably in Mining or large-scale Infrastructure/Civil projects.


- Specialized Skills: Expert knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of common HEMM (Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Hitachi, etc.). Proven experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like SAP-PM, Maximo, or similar.


Competencies: Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Exceptional leadership, budget management, and communication abilities. Deep understanding of condition-based monitoring and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
