The Legal Head will be responsible for leading the organization's legal function, ensuring strong governance, compliance, and risk mitigation across all business operations.
This role involves strategic legal advisory, contract management, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder management at senior leadership levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legal Strategy & Advisory
- Act as a strategic advisor to the leadership team on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters
- Provide proactive legal guidance on business initiatives, partnerships, and expansion plans
- Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies aligned with business goals
2. Contract Management
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a wide range of commercial agreements (vendor, client, partnership, NDAs, etc. )
- Ensure contracts are legally sound and aligned with organizational risk appetite
- Standardize contract templates and improve contract lifecycle management processes
3. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards
- Monitor changes in legal and regulatory frameworks and assess impact on business
- Develop and implement internal compliance policies and frameworks
4. Litigation & Dispute Resolution
- Manage ongoing litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters
- Coordinate with external counsel and ensure effective case handling
- Provide strategic inputs to minimize legal exposure and costs
5. Risk Management :
- Identify and assess legal risks across business functions
- Implement frameworks for risk tracking, reporting, and mitigation
- Conduct periodic legal audits and compliance reviews
6. Stakeholder Management :
- Collaborate with internal teams (HR, Finance, Sales, Operations) on legal matters
- Liaise with external stakeholders including regulators, law firms, and consultants
- Support senior management in board-level discussions and legal reporting
7. Team Leadership :
- Lead and mentor the legal team, ensuring high performance and capability building
- Allocate responsibilities and ensure timely delivery of legal support
- Drive process improvements and efficiency within the legal function
Key Requirements
- 12-16 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house exposure
- Strong expertise in corporate law, commercial contracts, and regulatory compliance
- Experience in handling litigation and working with external counsel
- Proven ability to partner with business leaders and influence decision-making
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Preferred Qualifications :
- LLB / LLM from a reputed institution
- Experience in [industry-specific domain, BFSI, Manufacturing, Technology, Renewable Energy, etc.
- Exposure to handling cross-border legal matters is an advantage
