Core Responsibilities:
- Own hardware architecture across the product portfolio - secure-communication transmitters and receivers, random-number modules and security appliances.
- Lead the digital/FPGA design effort and the high-speed analog and mixed-signal front-ends that interface with optics and detectors.
- Drive design-for-manufacture, EMC, thermal and signal-integrity qualification, and reliability testing through to certification.
- Build and lead the hardware team, and own vendor relationships, BoM cost and production transfer to manufacturing partners.
- Partner with the physics, silicon and software teams to close the loop from component to fielded system.
- Set the hardware roadmap and the engineering standards the team builds to.
Skills & Experience:
We care more about depth, curiosity and leadership than a checklist - if you are strong in most of the below and excited by the rest, we want to hear from you.
- Digital / FPGA design: RTL design and verification on modern FPGA/SoC platforms, high-speed interfaces and timing closure. Deep low-noise or high-speed digital experience from any domain transfers well.
- Analog & mixed-signal: high-speed and low-noise front-ends - amplifiers, data converters, driver and detection circuits. Precision-instrumentation or RF backgrounds are a strong fit.
- Board & system integration: PCB design, signal and power integrity, EMC, and bringing a multi-board system from prototype to qualified product.
- Productisation: design-for-manufacture and test, environmental qualification, and BoM and supply-chain management.
- Electro-optic interfacing (a plus): drive electronics for modulators and detectors - valuable, but we will support the right candidate in coming up the optics learning curve.
- Leadership: leading multidisciplinary hardware teams and delivering against demanding government and commercial milestones.
Good to Have - Leadership & Management:
- Project management: running multi-workstream technical programs against government and commercial milestones; risk, dependency and schedule management; stage-gate / TRL-based delivery.
- Product management: turning customer and stakeholder needs into requirements and roadmaps, and balancing technical, cost and time-to-market trade-offs.
- People leadership: hiring, mentoring and growing a high-calibre team; setting goals and giving feedback; building a first-principles engineering culture.
- Stakeholder engagement: engaging government, academic and industry partners, and representing in technical reviews and tenders.
- Communication: clear technical decks and documents for expert and non-expert audiences, and confident presenting to evaluators, customers and leadership.
- Funding & proposals: supporting grant, tender and funding submissions including technical write-ups and budget justification.
