Head Financial Controllership

Location: Madhya Pradesh

Function: Finance & Accounts Reporting to: Chief Financial Officer

About the Opportunity:

Our client is looking to appoint a senior finance professional to strengthen its controllership and financial governance framework across a geographically distributed organisation.

This is a broad-based finance leadership role requiring the incumbent to work closely with the CFO and business leadership while overseeing financial discipline across multiple locations. The position combines financial controllership, cost management, accounting, taxation, treasury, MIS, internal controls and finance transformation.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is comfortable operating beyond a purely corporate-finance environment and has demonstrated the ability to bring consistency, visibility and financial discipline to a complex, multi-location organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Controllership & Governance:

- Provide overall functional oversight of finance operations across multiple business locations.

- Ensure consistency in the application of finance policies, controls and processes.

- Strengthen financial governance and accountability across decentralised teams.

- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial closures.

- Review balance-sheet integrity, reconciliations, provisions, accruals and ageing items.

- Ensure robust controls around receivables, payables, inventory, fixed assets and advances.

Business & Cost Management:

- Drive effective planning and monitoring of operating expenditure.

- Work with business leaders to establish cost discipline and identify productivity opportunities.

- Analyse cost trends, variances and exceptions and drive corrective actions.

- Develop appropriate benchmarks and monitoring mechanisms for expenditure.

- Ensure that financial discipline supports rather than constrains business operations.

MIS, Analytics & Decision Support:

- Strengthen management reporting across revenue, profitability, costs, cash flow and working capital.

- Improve the quality, consistency and timeliness of financial information.

- Develop dashboards and analytical tools to provide management with actionable insights.

- Partner with the CFO and senior leadership on financial analysis and business decisions.

Finance Transformation & Digitalisation:

- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate finance processes.

- Lead initiatives around finance automation, ERP optimisation, digital workflows and analytics.

- Reduce manual intervention and improve the speed, accuracy and control of finance processes.

- Work closely with IT and other functions to integrate finance processes and systems.

- Establish measurable improvements in productivity, turnaround time and data quality.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance:

- Oversee direct and indirect tax compliance, including GST, TDS and income tax matters.

- Ensure timely statutory filings and payments.

- Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors on assessments, audits, notices and litigation.

- Identify potential tax exposures and ensure appropriate mitigation.

- Support tax planning while maintaining strong governance and compliance.

Treasury & Banking:

- Provide oversight of banking and cash-management activities across locations.

- Strengthen controls around collections, payments, deposits and bank reconciliations.

- Improve visibility of cash flows and funding requirements across operating units.

- Review banking arrangements and work with financial institutions on operational requirements.

Audit, Controls & Risk:

- Strengthen the organisation's internal financial control environment.

- Ensure adherence to financial policies, delegation of authority and operating procedures.

- Coordinate with statutory, internal and other auditors.

- Drive timely resolution of audit observations and control gaps.

- Identify emerging financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls.

Leadership:

- Lead and develop finance teams operating across different locations.

- Build stronger ownership, capability and responsiveness within the finance organisation.

- Work collaboratively with business and functional leaders while maintaining financial independence and governance.

- Drive a culture of accountability, integrity, transparency and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate:

- Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

- Approximately 15-18 years of post-qualification experience in finance and accounts.

- Strong experience in financial controllership within a multi-location / geographically dispersed organisation.

- Demonstrated expertise across accounting, financial closure, balance-sheet management, taxation, MIS, cost management and banking operations.

- Experience in a large-scale consumer-facing, manufacturing, services, retail, distribution or similarly complex organisation would be advantageous.

- Proven track record of improving finance processes and driving cost and control initiatives.

- Experience with ERP systems, finance automation, dashboards and digital transformation.

- Exposure to listed-company environments, statutory audits and regulatory requirements would be an advantage.

What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will combine strong technical finance capability with commercial understanding and operational maturity.

The role would suit a finance leader who can:

- Bring financial discipline without becoming overly bureaucratic.

- Influence senior stakeholders and business leaders.

- Manage complexity across multiple locations.

- Translate financial information into meaningful business actions.

- Lead teams while remaining personally hands-on where required.

- Drive technology-led improvements in finance.

- Balance control, governance and business enablement.

This is an opportunity for a senior finance professional to play an important role in strengthening the organisation's financial architecture and supporting its next phase of growth.
