- The Head of Logistics will architect and launch end-to-end logistics operations for clinical and genetic samples-including blood, DNA, RNA, and related clinical materials-in a fast-growing diagnostics startup.
- This is a hands-on, strategic leadership role for someone passionate about building scalable processes, innovating with limited resources, and driving measurable improvements as the company expands its test offerings and cities of operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and motivate logistics teams including phlebotomists and last-mile executives for sample collection and delivery across multiple cities.
- Design robust first mile and last mile sample transport routes, adapting to startup constraints, evolving city maps, public transport options, and dynamic time requirements.
- Implement real-time tracking, documentation, and SOPs for complete sample traceability; manage chain-of-custody and compliance with NABL/CAP standards.
- Establish, evaluate, and optimize vendor and partner relationships for transportation, phlebotomy, and fleet management to gain cost and TAT advantages.
- Collaborate closely with product, lab operations, client management, and sales to anticipate business needs and proactively solve field issues.
- Monitor and drive improvements to key metrics such as TAT from intimation to pickup and from pickup to lab, sample integrity, and cost per sample.
- Implement and refine logistics SaaS/software solutions for routing, GPS tracking, data dashboards, and communications.
- Lead process redesigns to efficiently scale for new test types, geographies, and client requirements, adapting to the rapid growth typical of startups.
- Liaise with external and internal stakeholders to deliver service excellence under pressure and ensure continuous customer and client satisfaction.
Experience & Qualifications:
- 7+ years of relevant experience in logistics, including at least 2 years building operations for a startup or high-growth organization.
- Deep experience with clinical/genetic sample logistics: blood, DNA, RNA, and related lab materials in healthcare or diagnostics settings.
- Strong leadership background managing "on-ground" teams (phlebotomists, city logistics staff) and scaling up in new markets.
- Track record of designing and implementing city route plans and resource allocation.
- Experience managing NABL and/or CAP-accredited laboratories and compliance documentation.
- Proven success in vendor development, negotiation, and partnership building.
- Demonstrated use of tech and SaaS tools (route optimization, team management, tracking) to enhance efficiency.
- A well-developed network with logistics, courier, and phlebotomy service companies is highly desirable.
- Startup mindset: bias for action, creative problem-solving, comfort with ambiguity, and a willingness to "roll up sleeves"
