Market Risk Analyst

- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Market Risk Analyst to join our Risk team at our office in Chennai, India. The person selected for this role will produce the market risk reporting for the Metals, Minerals and Coal portfolio. They will be required to assess high-risk and strategic exposures, maintain an up-to-date risk profile, conduct breach monitoring, and support the continuous improvement of the market risk framework.


- The Glencore Market Risk team is an independent function that manages, monitors, and provides advice to the Trading business on matters relating to Market Risk. This involves establishing risk thresholds, tracking exposures in line with our risk tolerances, collaborating with trading teams to develop risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring timely identification of potential risks.


The Role :


- Ensure the accurate and timely production of daily market risk reports (VAR, stress tests, liquidity, etc.), managing daily workflows, schedules, and project deadlines


- Understand, explain and report key movers of the Risk controls


- Ensure investigation, documentation and timely escalation to Market Risk leads on all issues identified through daily deliverables


- Monitor and manage exposure levels at individual and portfolio levels to ensure compliance with approved risk appetite and resolve breaches.


- Conduct detailed analyses on high-risk exposures and new potential deals.


- Present ad hoc market risk reports to senior management and stakeholders as required.


- Maintain code base (Python & VBA) related to key market risk processes.


- Investigate issues related to report generation, liaise with the IT support and actively drive the changes and test patches and fixes.


- Work with internal stakeholders, including Front Office, Finance, Compliance, and Legal, as needed.


- Stay informed on market trends and regulatory changes affecting market risk.


- Contribute to the continuous development and enhancement of market risk assessment methodologies and policies.


Qualifications and requirements :


- Degree in Finance, Economics, or Statistics, with a strong financial analysis skillset.


- 3-5 years professional experience in market risk in a leading financial institution or a global commodity trader with a preference for experience in Metals and Mining.


- Knowledge of typical derivative instruments (Forwards, Futures, American Options, Asian Options, Digitals, Outperformance Options, Time Spread Options, Location Spread Options, etc.).


- Experience with quantitative market risk metrics (VaR, Expected Shortfall, Stress Tests, Greeks, etc.) is essential.


- Good technical skills in Python, VBA & SQL, preferred


- Effective written and verbal communication skills.


- Comfortable with complex technical processes and analysis of large data.


- Advanced analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.


- Self-motivated and able to take initiative to broaden own knowledge.


- Ability to work in a team and engage with others, essential.


- Ability to adapt to fast changing environments and priorities.
