Role Overview:
As the General Manager - Project Planning, you will be at the helm of all project planning activities, ensuring seamless execution and timely completion of large-scale projects in Africa. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and other key stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans, monitor progress, and mitigate risks. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing resource allocation, improving project efficiency, and ultimately driving successful project outcomes that contribute significantly to the company's growth and reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive project planning strategies and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Lead the development of detailed project schedules using Primavera P6, incorporating resource allocation, critical path analysis, and risk management strategies for all projects.
- Monitor project progress against established baselines, identify potential delays or deviations, and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules and budgets for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and stakeholder expectations for successful project delivery.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to project planning teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing to enhance project planning capabilities across the organization.
- Manage and maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, schedules, reports, and change requests, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle for audit and compliance purposes.
- Conduct regular project reviews and performance analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices in project planning and execution for future projects.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated expertise in project planning methodologies, including critical path method (CPM), earned value management (EVM), and risk management techniques.
- Proven ability to develop and manage complex project schedules using Primavera P6, including resource loading, cost control, and performance reporting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks and issues proactively.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in project planning and management, with a significant portion of that experience in large-scale projects in the construction, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
