
General Manager Maintenance & Operations:
General Manager who is experienced with maintenance and operation of a service and maintenance unit for machinery and equipment.
Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead and grow the Service & Maintenance business for industrial machinery, equipment and special-purpose vehicles.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering / maintenance background, with hands-on experience managing service and maintenance operations for heavy machinery, industrial equipment, mobile equipment or special-purpose vehicles. In addition to technical expertise, the role requires strong commercial, customer relationship, people-management and business-development capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the overall service, maintenance, repair, overhaul and refurbishment operations.
- Manage preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance activities to ensure high equipment availability and customer uptime.
- Provide technical leadership on mechanical machinery, vehicles, hydraulic systems and industrial equipment.
- Lead service engineers, technicians and workshop/service teams and develop a strong service-oriented organisation.
- Plan and manage service projects, manpower, resources, schedules and costs.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and understand their operational and maintenance requirements.
- Identify opportunities for service contracts, aftermarket services, upgrades, refurbishment and spare parts.
- Support sales and business development activities and contribute to the growth of the service business.
- Take responsibility for budgets, profitability, productivity and overall business performance of the service unit.
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement and Project teams to resolve technical and customer issues.
- Ensure high standards of HSE, quality, compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Develop processes and systems to improve service response time, reliability, productivity and profitability.
- Represent the company with customers, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong professional experience in maintenance, service and operations of industrial machinery, heavy equipment, mobile equipment or special-purpose vehicles.
- Proven experience managing a service/maintenance organisation or business unit.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, machinery maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
- Experience in managing field service teams, workshops and technicians.
- Good commercial understanding with experience in customer management, sales/service contracts and business development.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Ability to combine technical depth with business and customer orientation.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with industrial customers and technically demanding equipment will be highly valued.
Preferred Industry Background:
Candidates could come from heavy equipment, material handling, construction equipment, industrial machinery, mining equipment, special-purpose vehicles, process equipment, power/hydraulics, marine equipment or other capital-equipment businesses.
The ideal candidate should be someone who has grown through the mechanical/service/maintenance function and subsequently moved into a broader leadership role, rather than a purely sales or administrative professional.
