
Job Description - General Manager (Finance)
Location: Chennai
Role Overview
The GM - Finance will lead the finance function, partnering with business and operations to drive financial performance, governance, and strategic growth. The role requires a balanced leader with strong exposure to both plant/manufacturing finance and corporate finance, preferably within electronics/defence or complex manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Business Partnering
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
- Drive variance analysis, profitability improvement, and cost optimization
- Partner with business teams on pricing, margins, and project profitability
2. Plant Finance & Manufacturing Support
- Oversee product costing (BOM), inventory control, and variance analysis
- Monitor shopfloor performance, yield, and cost drivers
- Drive capex planning, ROI (IRR/payback), and asset utilization
- Support cost reduction and operational efficiency initiatives
3. Corporate Finance & Governance
- Lead financial reporting, consolidation, and IND AS compliance
- Manage board reporting and senior leadership presentations
- Handle banking relationships, working capital, and fund management
- Ensure strong internal controls, audit compliance, and risk management
4. Project & Contract Finance
- Manage project-based costing and revenue tracking
- Support commercial negotiations, contract structuring, and pricing
- Monitor long-cycle project profitability and cost controls
5. Compliance & Controls
Ensure adherence to:
- Direct & indirect tax regulations
- Statutory & internal audits
- Corporate governance standards
- Strengthen internal financial controls and processes
6. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor finance teams across functions
- Build a culture of accountability, analytics, and business partnership
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Qualified CA (mandatory)
- 15-20+ years experience in finance
Strong exposure to:
- Manufacturing / plant finance
- Corporate finance (board reporting, banking, consolidation)
Industry preference:
- Electronics / Defence / Automotive / Complex manufacturing
- Experience in project-based business models is a strong advantage
