Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Environment Head to lead environmental compliance, sustainability, regulatory affairs, and environmental risk management across manufacturing operations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining statutory approvals, driving environmental performance improvements, and serving as the primary interface with regulatory authorities.

The role requires a strong understanding of environmental legislation, pollution control systems, waste management, environmental audits, and sustainability practices, preferably within manufacturing, heavy engineering, metals, chemicals, mining, power, cement, or industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.

- Oversee compliance with the Environment Protection Act, Air Act, Water Act, Hazardous Waste Management Rules, Biomedical Waste Rules, E-Waste Rules, Plastic Waste Management Rules, and other relevant environmental regulations.

- Establish and maintain environmental governance frameworks, compliance systems, and reporting mechanisms across operations.

- Monitor evolving regulatory requirements and implement proactive compliance measures.

- Manage environmental approvals, permits, and authorizations, including:

- Consent to Establish (CTE)

- Consent to Operate (CTO)

- Environmental Clearance (EC)

- Groundwater and water withdrawal permissions

- Hazardous waste authorizations

- Other environmental licenses and approvals

- Ensure timely submission, renewal, and maintenance of all statutory permits and regulatory filings.

- Coordinate environmental due diligence and support expansion, modernization, and greenfield/brownfield projects.

- Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory bodies including:

- Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)

- State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)

- Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)

- State Environment Departments

- Other statutory authorities

- Manage regulatory inspections, audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements.

- Represent the organization before regulatory authorities and facilitate resolution of compliance matters.

- Develop and implement environmental management systems and sustainability initiatives.

- Monitor key environmental performance indicators related to emissions, effluents, waste generation, water consumption, and resource utilization.

- Drive pollution prevention, waste reduction, resource conservation, and environmental improvement programs.

- Support ESG and sustainability reporting initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

- Lead internal and external environmental audits and compliance assessments.

- Identify environmental risks and implement mitigation plans to minimize operational and regulatory exposure.

- Conduct root-cause analysis of environmental incidents and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.

- Develop environmental emergency preparedness and response frameworks.

- Lead and develop environmental teams across locations.

- Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Projects, Safety, Quality, Sustainability, Legal, and Corporate Affairs teams.

- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on environmental performance, compliance status, risks, and strategic initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience:

- 14 - 24 years of experience in Environmental Management, Environmental Compliance, Sustainability, or EHS functions.

- Strong knowledge of Indian environmental laws, regulations, and statutory compliance requirements.

- Proven experience managing environmental approvals, permits, and regulatory interactions.

- Hands-on experience dealing with CPCB, SPCBs, MoEFCC, and other government authorities.

- Strong understanding of pollution control systems, waste management, water management, and environmental monitoring.

- Experience conducting environmental audits, compliance assessments, and regulatory reporting.

- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
