Job Summary :
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic General Manager - Accounting to lead our finance and accounting function in Kolkata. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the retail industry, a deep understanding of financial operations, and a proven track record in managing teams and ensuring compliance. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of leading all accounting and financial planning activities while aligning financial strategy with business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management
- Lead the annual budgeting and financial forecasting process.
- Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
- Provide strategic financial input to senior management on decision-making issues affecting the organization.
2. Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, inventory accounting, and payroll.
- Ensure timely closing of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial records and statements.
3. Financial Reporting
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to management and stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data and trends to provide actionable insights.
- Ensure timely submission of financial reports to regulatory bodies and management.
4. Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with statutory laws and financial regulations (GST, Income Tax, Companies Act, etc.).
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and manage the audit process.
- Implement and monitor internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets.
5. Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of performance, continuous learning, and process improvement.
- Allocate resources and responsibilities effectively to ensure departmental goals are met.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Educational Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA) / Cost Accountant (ICWA) or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3-5 years in a General Manager or senior finance leadership role, preferably in the retail industry.
- Strong understanding of Indian accounting standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficient in financial software systems and MS Office (especially Excel).
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
