Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced legal professional to support the General Counsel and US-based Legal team in managing commercial contracts, real estate operations, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and other legal matters. The role requires strong expertise in US legal and regulatory frameworks, independent legal judgment, stakeholder management, and the ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice. The candidate will also oversee junior attorneys, coordinate with external counsel, and drive improvements in legal processes and technology adoption.

Responsibilities:

- Draft, review, and negotiate vendor, service, consulting, confidentiality, access, and other commercial agreements. Resolve routine contractual issues independently and escalate material legal or business risks when required.

- Advise business teams on contract interpretation, amendments, extensions, renewals, termination provisions, and related contractual matters.

- Develop and maintain standard contract templates, forms, and playbooks, identify recurring negotiation issues, and recommend improvements to contracting processes.

- Provide legal guidance on landlord-tenant matters, leasing practices, eviction requirements, and other legal issues affecting property operations.

- Monitor and interpret applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations across relevant business areas, assess their impact, and recommend changes to company policies, agreements, and operating practices.

- Maintain corporate entity records and organizational documentation, including formation documents, operating agreements, amendments, registrations, and governance-related materials.

- Support privacy, litigation, insurance claims, and risk matters through legal research, document reviews, issue analysis, case summaries, and coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

- Assist the General Counsel and US-based Legal team in evaluating significant legal matters, identifying key facts, risks, deadlines, and recommended courses of action.

- Coordinate with outside counsel and legal service providers, monitor deliverables, and support the efficient management of external legal resources.

- Partner with Property Operations, Asset Management, Finance, Accounting, HR, Risk, Information Security, and other business functions to resolve legal and operational matters.

- Maintain accurate legal documentation and matter files, ensuring confidentiality, legal privilege, version control, and timely follow-through.

- Exercise independent judgment, proactively identify legal and business risks, and escalate complex, novel, or high-risk matters to the General Counsel or senior US-based Legal leadership.

- Drive improvements in legal processes, contracting workflows, knowledge management, and technology adoption, including AI-enabled legal tools.

- Oversee the work and performance of junior attorneys on the Bengaluru legal team, providing guidance and supporting their development.

- Undertake additional legal, regulatory, and strategic projects as assigned.

- Work from the Bengaluru office under a hybrid model, with working hours aligned to US business hours and flexibility to support time-sensitive matters.

Requirements:

- JD, LL.B., or equivalent law degree; admission to practice law in the candidate's home jurisdiction is preferred.

- 12 - 16 years of relevant legal experience, including substantial exposure to US corporate, commercial, real estate, or operating-company matters.

- Strong experience independently drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including vendor, service, consulting, confidentiality, and other business agreements.

- Sound understanding of US legal and regulatory frameworks, including the ability to research and interpret requirements across multiple jurisdictions and translate them into practical business guidance.

- Experience handling landlord-tenant matters, real estate operations, or other multi-jurisdictional operating matters is preferred.

- Knowledge of corporate entity management, organizational records, and corporate governance documentation.

- Exposure to privacy, litigation, regulatory compliance, insurance claims, or risk management is an advantage.

- Strong legal drafting, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently manage complex matters and prepare clear, business-oriented legal advice.

- Demonstrated ability to assess legal and commercial risks, exercise sound judgment, and determine when escalation is necessary.

- Proven stakeholder-management skills and the ability to work effectively with senior business leaders, attorneys, external counsel, and cross-functional teams across time zones.

- High standards of professional judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and management of privileged information.

- Experience with legal research databases, contract lifecycle or matter-management systems, document-management tools, and technology-assisted legal workflows is preferred.

- Experience in a US real estate company, property management organization, corporate legal department, or law firm is strongly preferred.

- Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience guiding junior legal professionals and managing multiple matters independently.
