Director - Legal - Quick Commerce Startup

Role Overview:

The Director Legal will lead and manage all legal and compliance functions for a rapidly-scaling quick commerce platform. This leader will be responsible for establishing robust legal frameworks to support hyper-growth while enabling new market launches, technology initiatives, strategic partnerships, and regulatory compliance across India's evolving e-commerce landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

- Advise executive leadership and business units on a broad range of legal issues including contracts, employment, technology, licensing, and risk management.

- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts with partners, vendors, gig workforce, suppliers, and technology providers.

- Manage regulatory compliance initiatives covering e-commerce, consumer protection, FSSAI, data privacy, digital transactions, labor, and environmental health/safety.

- Oversee the implementation and operation of legal systems for contract lifecycle management, compliance tracking, and workflow automation.

- Design and institute transparent standard operating procedures and policies for incident and dispute management.

- Act as primary contact for managing external legal counsel and advisors.

- Lead due diligence and documentation for corporate transactions, fund-raising, mergers, or strategic alliances.

- Continuously monitor changes in legislation, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices relevant to quick commerce.

- Guide stakeholder relationships in government affairs, investor communications, and key customer/partner negotiations.

Qualification:

- LLB/LLM from a law school with 8+ years of experience handling complex legal matters in high-growth start-ups, e-commerce, or technology firms.

- Strong exposure to drafting and negotiating contracts at scale, ideally in the retail, logistics, marketplace, or gig-economy sector.

- Demonstrable track record of overseeing compliance, statutory filings, and legal operations across multiple states in India.

- Excellent understanding of digital ecosystem regulations (such as IT Act amendments, data privacy, intermediary guidelines, etc.).

- Proven leadership, team management, and stakeholder collaboration abilities with high professional integrity and business judgment.

- Comfortable with ambiguity, scaling legal operations in a dynamic start-up environment, and handling confidential, high-stakes issues.

- Experience with quick-commerce, hyper local delivery, or on-demand platforms.

- Familiarity with legal tech platforms, contract automation, and regulatory technology solutions.
