Role Overview:

The Design Director is responsible for a combination of client relations, team leadership, design oversight, operational management, business growth and profitability. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of both design and managing client relationships.

1. Design Leadership & Project Oversight:

Lead Design Efforts:

1. Oversee and direct the creative and technical design process for multiple projects.

2. Ensure that design solutions align with client expectations, company standards, and industry trends.

Manage Internal Design Teams:

1. Guide, mentor, and develop in-house design teams to foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment.

2. Provide strategic input to ensure projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budgets.

Client-Facing Role for Presentations:

1. Represent company in client presentations and meetings.

2. Clearly communicate design concepts, methodologies, and deliverables to clients.

Ensure Project Efficiency and Profitability:

1. Monitor project progress and address challenges proactively to ensure profitability and client satisfaction.

2. Ensure timely delivery of projects with high-quality output.

2. Team Building & Management:

Recruit & Hire Talent:

1. Identify, interview, and hire team members in a responsible and sustainable manner.

2. Ensure recruitment aligns with the current workload, future project pipeline, and financial sustainability.

Develop Strong Design Teams:

1. Cultivate a strong, innovative, and motivated design team.

2. Implement mentorship and professional development programs to nurture talent.

Facilitate Effective Internal & External Communication:

1. Serve as the primary liaison between design teams, clients, and other stakeholders.

2. Ensure seamless communication within internal teams and across different departments.

3. Project & Client Communication:

Attend Client & Project Meetings:

1. Participate in key meetings with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to ensure alignment of objectives.

2. Address project concerns and provide strategic solutions in real-time.

Manage Day-to-Day Communication:

1. Handle internal and external communication effectively, ensuring clarity and alignment across all parties.

2. Act as the point of contact for critical design-related discussions.

Operator Relationships:

1. Develop and nurture long-term relationships with clients and hospitality operators.

2. Focus on repeat business opportunities by ensuring exceptional service delivery and fostering trust.

4. Travel & Operational Responsibilities:

Travel for Business Development & Project Servicing:

1. Travel locally and internationally as required to meet business and project needs.

2. Represent the company at client meetings and networking opportunities.

Provide Administrative Support as Needed:

1. Assist in administrative tasks that support the efficiency and effectiveness of the studio.

Report to Partner:

1. Keep the Partner informed on project statuses, team performance, new leads and operational needs.

2. Align with the companys broader business and design strategy.

5. Business Development:

- Report any potential leads from existing & new clients and work with the business development team to articulate the scope of work and preparation of proposal. This may include but is not limited to preparing curated portfolios, CVs & attending technical meetings along with the Partner and the business development team.

Conclusion:

The Design Director plays a pivotal role in maintaining client relationships, leading design teams, ensuring project success, and helping to oversee studio operations. This role requires a blend of strategic vision, leadership, and hands-on design expertise to elevate the firms presence in India region and beyond.

Requirements for the position:

- Minimum of 14+ years of experience in resort - luxury hospitality interior design.

- Strong creative and conceptualization abilities.

- Proficiency in space planning and meticulous attention to detail.

- Comprehensive understanding of hotel design and construction processes.

- Proven leadership and team management skills.

- Extensive knowledge of project and resource management.

- Excellent skills in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop.

- Fluent in English.

- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
