
Role Overview
The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) will be responsible for leading and strengthening the compliance, legal, and regulatory framework of the company. This role demands a seasoned corporate legal and regulatory professional with extensive experience in RBI/NHB regulations, regulatory inspections and approvals, KYC/AML standards, and stakeholder management. The CCO will ensure full adherence to statutory, legal, and regulatory obligations while enabling business growth and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate brings at least 12+ years of experience in financial services, NBFCs/HFCs, banking, or corporate legal functions with a proven ability to streamline processes, manage regulatory relationships, and uphold a strong compliance culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee, interpret, and implement RBI, NHB, Companies Act, FEMA, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Lead all aspects of regulatory inspections, on-site and off-site audits, and prepare timely responses, action reports, and compliance submissions.
- Manage regulatory filings including monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual returns to RBI/NHB and other authorities.
- Drive compliance for KYC & AML, Fair Practices Code, Fraud Reporting, and Outsourcing norms.
2. Regulatory Approvals & Liaison
- Engage with financial regulators, government authorities, rating agencies, auditors, and external counsel.
- Obtain RBI/NHB approvals for changes in management, ownership, capital structure, and business activities.
4. Legal & Documentation Management
- Review, draft, and negotiate loan agreements, SLAs, NDAs, MOUs, service contracts, securitization/DA/PBO documents, and other legal agreements.
- Provide legal guidance to business teams on product structures, new initiatives, digital processes, and operational execution.
5. Compliance Strategy & Policy Management
- Formulate, review, and update compliance policies such as:
a. KYC & AML Policy
b. Fair Practices Code
c. Risk Management & Outsourcing Policies
d. Regulatory Compliance Policies
- Establish compliance monitoring mechanisms, risk mitigation frameworks, and early-warning systems.
6. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, external agencies, banks, financial institutions and government bodies.
7. Team Leadership & Culture Building
- Lead and mentor the Legal & Compliance team ensuring high productivity, collaboration, and capability-building.
- Foster a culture of transparency, strong governance, and ethical conduct across the organization.

Qualifications & Experience
- 12-18+ years of progressive experience in Compliance and Legal roles in NBFCs, HFCs, Banks, or Financial Institutions.
- Demonstrated experience in handling RBI/NHB inspections, regulatory transitions, and legal documentation.
