
About the Role:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Assistant Manager - Legal to join Aspire Systems' in-house legal team at Chennai, India. The role involves managing a broad range of legal matters with a primary focus on US, UK, and EU commercial contracts, Intellectual Property licensing, regulatory compliance, and data protection laws.
We follow a hybrid working model. This position requires the ideal candidate to work in the UK shift.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Contract Lifecycle Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts including Software license agreements; IT services agreements; partner, reseller agreements. Ensure contracts align with internal risk policies and applicable legal requirements.
2. Intellectual Property & Technology Law: Manage the company's IP portfolio, including software copyrights, trademarks. Support product and engineering teams with IP strategy, open-source compliance, and technology licensing.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor changes in IT, IP, and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, Indian DPDP Act) and ensure compliance. Conduct legal risk assessments and support internal compliance programs.
4. Legal Advisory & Dispute Resolution: Advise internal stakeholders on legal issues related to business operations, and technology transactions.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with technology, procurement, HR, marketing, and finance teams to provide practical legal guidance.
6. Support the legal training needs of various teams on legal and regulatory developments.
Qualifications & Experience:
- LL.B. from a recognized university (LL.M. in Contracts/Technology/Intellectual Property Law is a plus)
- A minimum of 6 years of experience, preferably with in-house legal department in the IT/Tech sector
- In-depth understanding of IP laws, contract law, IT Act, and data privacy frameworks (GDPR, DPDP)
- Proven experience in tech contracts and managing software licensing issues
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to handle complex legal matters with minimal supervision
