Job Posting: Risk Manager Special Projects & Investigations (SPI)
Location: Bangalore (5 days a week, office-based)
About the Role:
The Special Projects & Investigations (SPI) team within Amazons Trust & Store Integrity (TSI) organization is seeking a data-savvy Risk Manager to help mitigate and prevent fraud and abuse across Amazon stores. This role acts as a force multiplier by owning complex gap-prevention initiatives, leveraging large-scale data analysis, and partnering closely with operations, product, policy, tech, and science teams.
The ideal candidate is highly flexible, analytical, and action-oriented, with a strong ability to dive deep, communicate clearly, and deliver results in a fast-changing, ambiguous environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk analyses using complex datasets (SQL, Python, R, or similar tools).
- Own and execute high-impact risk mitigation and prevention initiatives.
- Identify gaps and emerging risks in existing mechanisms, systems, and policies, and recommend scalable solutions.
- Use data and technical skills to discover, scale, and improve risk signals for abuse detection.
- Break down complex problems, prioritize ruthlessly, and deliver measurable results.
- Perform large-scale deep dives to uncover root causes, false positives, and false negatives.
- Partner with engineering, product, legal, policy, and program teams to design and implement solutions.
- Communicate insights and recommendations verbally, in writing, and via diagrams or documentation.
- Monitor post-launch performance of mitigations and continuously improve effectiveness.
- Influence stakeholders to adopt changes and sunset legacy mitigations where appropriate.
A Day in the Life:
- Deep dive into abuse patterns, risk gaps, and system mechanics.
- Align with partner teams on mitigation and prevention strategies.
- Launch initiatives and track progress using metrics and dashboards.
- Evaluate effectiveness of controls and refine based on data and anecdotes.
- Communicate findings, progress, and risks to diverse stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in risk analysis, compliance, fraud prevention, audit, or related fields.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis (SQL and/or scripting languages such as Python, R, MATLAB).
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and metrics-driven decision making.
- Proven ability to deliver complex, cross-functional projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High integrity and experience handling confidential information.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to work tactically and strategically.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in compliance program management, governance, audit, or loss prevention.
- Background in fast-paced e-commerce or technology-driven organizations.
- Experience working with fraud, compliance, law enforcement, or intelligence teams.
- Exposure to process automation, standardization, or tooling.
- Familiarity with Threat Intelligence, OSINT, digital forensics, or internal investigations.
- Experience with AWS, Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI.
- Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CISSP or similar risk/compliance credentials).
