The General Manager - Corporate Strategy & Planning will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's long-term strategic direction and driving enterprise-wide growth initiatives. The incumbent will partner closely with the Board members, GCFO, and senior leadership to formulate corporate strategy, evaluate new business opportunities, lead transformation programs, and support strategic decision-making through robust financial and commercial analysis. The role requires a combination of strategic thinking, financial expertise, execution excellence, and strong stakeholder management to create sustainable shareholder value.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Strategy & Business Planning
- Develop and drive the organization's long-term strategic roadmap aligned with corporate vision and business objectives.
- Lead the annual strategic planning process, including business reviews, portfolio assessments, and growth planning.
- Identify new business opportunities, diversification strategies, and market expansion initiatives, partnering with the M&A & Corporate Development function on the evaluation of inorganic growth opportunities.
- Recommend strategic initiatives to enhance competitiveness, operational efficiency, profitability, and long-term value creation.
- Support enterprise-wide strategic decision-making through data-driven insights and scenario planning.
Organic Growth & Market Development
- Identify and evaluate organic growth opportunities, including new service lines, geographic expansion, and market penetration strategies across industries, markets, and geographies.
- Build and strengthen relationships with strategic customers, business partners, industry bodies, and institutional stakeholders to support the organization's growth agenda.
- Develop commercial proposals, strategic business cases, and non-equity partnership frameworks (e.g., franchise, management contracts, clinical alliances) to support organic growth strategies.
- Support strategic discussions with prospective partners and alliance stakeholders on organic collaboration models, coordinating with the M&A & Corporate Development team where the opportunity involves an inorganic structure.
- Conduct comprehensive market, customer, industry, and competitor analyses to identify emerging trends and growth opportunities, sharing relevant inorganic leads with the M&A & Corporate Development team for evaluation.
Strategic Projects & Business Transformation
- Lead high-impact cross-functional strategic initiatives from concept through execution.
- Drive enterprise transformation programs focused on business growth, productivity improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with business leaders to ensure successful implementation of strategic priorities.
- Monitor project milestones, risks, KPIs, budgets, and value realization to ensure expected business outcomes.
Financial & Commercial Analysis
- Develop financial models, strategic business cases, and scenario analyses to evaluate the commercial and strategic rationale of organic growth initiatives;
- Evaluate capital allocation priorities and investment opportunities for organic initiatives and expansion plans, partnering with the M&A team on deal-specific valuation and financial analysis for acquisitions and joint ventures.
- Assess financial viability, strategic fit, and commercial risks associated with growth opportunities.
- Present strategic recommendations and business case proposals to executive leadership and the Board.
Business Performance Management
- Monitor organizational strategic, financial, and operational performance against established targets.
- Design governance frameworks and review mechanisms to track strategic initiatives.
- Develop executive dashboards, management reports, and performance scorecards for leadership review.
- Identify performance gaps and recommend corrective actions to achieve strategic objectives.
Executive Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with the GCFO, Business Heads, and Functional Leaders to drive enterprise priorities.
- Prepare Board presentations, strategic review documents, decision papers, and executive reports.
- Coordinate with external consultants, advisors, investors, and other strategic stakeholders as required.
- Influence senior leadership through fact-based analysis and strategic recommendations.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
- Expertise in corporate strategy, business planning, financial modelling, and commercial/business case analysis.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong understanding of market research, competitive intelligence, and industry analysis.
- Outstanding executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to lead large cross-functional strategic and transformation initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, financial modelling, and business analytics tools.
- Ability to influence senior executives, manage ambiguity, and drive organizational change.
Preferred Background
- Experience with leading strategy consulting firms (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain, EY-Parthenon, Deloitte Monitor), corporate strategy functions of large conglomerates, or enterprise business transformation teams.
- MBA from a premier Tier-1 Business School with an excellent academic record.
- Exposure to Board-level presentations, CXO stakeholder engagement, and strategic decision support.
- Experience across diversified businesses, conglomerates, or multiple industry sectors is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in large, multi-location, or regulated organizations (healthcare/hospital sector experience is an advantage but not mandatory).
