Head - Piping (Departmental Head)


Description:


- The DM shall be responsible for leading a large team of professionals and will be responsible for the delivery of the projects in time and in line with organizational strategy in a safe & fully compliant manner to the satisfaction of the client.

- The DM shall work collaboratively across the Organization to optimize performance, drive growth and maintain and augment the integrity of the process and systems.

- The DM role would involve working collaboratively with people across disciplines and geographies while directing & leading his team to achieve Organizational goals.

- DM shall be a visionary and be ready with a plan to cash in on the opportunities and face the challenges that the industry may offer in terms of technology and project diversification and be ready in terms of employing the required talent or have a plan to train them so that the company is ready to take the advantage of those opportunities and face the challenges.

- DM shall have a mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Optimal use
of the resources with a focus on Technical Integrity, Safety, sustainability and digitization will be a key aspect of this role.

The position entails challenges as under and it is expected that the DM provide leadership and has a hands-on approach thereby becoming a role model for one to emulate:

a. Delivering of operational performance including quality assurance and process excellence with a focus on sustainability and digitization.

b. Delivering projects both Brownfield and Greenfield within budget and on time.

c. Represent Organization at stakeholders forums externally and internally.

d. Maintain a high team moral, rewards and recognitions of team members, Retention and making the team future ready.

e. Ensures Periodic review of Discipline Workflows and procedures as necessary to achieve enhanced efficiency and quality.

The position interacts with:

Internally: Cluster Head, Operation Director, Manager of Engineering, Project Director, Project Manager, Project Engineering Manager, Discipline Managers, Engineering Team Members etc.

Externally: Home office, Clients, Contractors, Vendors, Auditors, Industry forums etc.

Key Responsibilities include:

Resource management and development:

- Review resource plan with Section Heads, Group Leads and Lead Engineers to ascertain resource requirement and allocation against project requirement and discipline activities.

- Analyze gap if any & look at alternative avenues of shorter and long-term resource requirements.

- Participate in recruitment process to ascertain right categorization of candidate & formalities.

- To recruit critical or key resources based on long term objectives of organization & discipline Review and firm up short term and long-term resource requirements.

- Managing disciplines budgets and expenditures.

Project delivery, support, and performance of discipline:

- Draw up discipline specific KPIs with Section Heads, Group Leads and lead engineers for project delivery and quality.

- Approve estimates for proposals/ prospects.

- To address and resolve any functional issues or potential failure on schedule, cost, or quality in project.

- Support in project execution through use of technical skills, engineering judgment and suggesting innovative solutions as appropriate.

- Periodic review and assessment of discipline specific KPIs/ Benchmarks.

- Collaborate with other discipline managers and resolve interface issues if any.

- Review and approve usage of external agencies for purpose of sub-contract.

- Enhance and improve system procedures and processes to improve project execution.

Competency assessment & Development:

- Maintain and update Capability Matrix covering all Employees within Discipline.

- Assess competency requirements and development for current and future competencies with the support of Section Heads, Group Leads and lead engineers.

- Prepare Upskill/Reskill plan for the discipline personnel.

- Drive digitalization / innovative/continual improvement mind set within the discipline.

- Present discipline capabilities to internal / external stakeholders.

People Management:

- Establish individual performance expectations and regularly review individual performance and recommend appropriate rewards and recognition.

- Recruit the right talent and develop them through focused training, knowledge management initiatives and structured exposure to best practices.

- Improve employee engagement.

- Retention of employees.

- Mentoring and developing talent.

- Developing and engaging successors.

About You:

You will possess the following attributes for this role:

- Engineering Graduate in Mechanical or Chemical discipline with 22+ years of experience

- Experience in Oil & Gas sector, Renery, Petrochemical, Chemical / Process Plant / Fertilizer Plant, Energy Transition Projects (Green Hydrogen, CCUS, SAF, Green Ammonia etc.)

- The person should have monitored at the least 3 Large scale projects simultaneously.

- Should have leadership experience and ability to manage large teams of at the least 150 to 200 persons.

- Should possess good communication / presentation skills.
