We are looking for a senior R&D leader to drive the organizations technology and research strategy in advanced battery materials, with end-to-end ownership from laboratory research and technology development through pilot scale-up and commercial production. The role will lead scientific teams, define the technology roadmap, accelerate commercialization, and build strategic relationships with customers, research institutions, technology partners, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the R&D strategy and technology roadmap for advanced battery materials.
- Lead the development, validation, scale-up, and commercialization of new battery material technologies.
- Drive R&D programs from laboratory-scale research through pilot production and successful transition to commercial manufacturing.
- Lead research and development of cathode materials, precursor materials, and other advanced battery materials.
- Identify emerging technologies, materials, processes, and scientific opportunities relevant to next-generation batteries.
- Establish research priorities, development milestones, technical KPIs, and commercialization timelines.
- Lead material synthesis, characterization, performance evaluation, process optimization, and technology validation.
- Work closely with manufacturing, process engineering, quality, supply chain, and commercial teams to enable successful technology scale-up and production.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of scientists, researchers, engineers, and technical specialists.
- Collaborate with customers to understand technical requirements and translate them into R&D and product development programs.
- Build strategic partnerships with universities, research institutions, technology providers, laboratories, and other industry partners.
- Lead technical discussions, joint development programs, technology evaluations, and intellectual property initiatives.
- Ensure R&D activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate technical risks, development feasibility, cost implications, and commercialization potential of new technologies.
- Represent the organization in technical forums, industry conferences, customer engagements, and interactions with regulatory and research bodies.
- Drive a strong culture of scientific innovation, experimentation, documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills:
- 12 - 22 years of experience in R&D, materials science, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field, with 15+ years of relevant R&D experience preferred.
- Strong experience in battery materials, with hands-on expertise in cathode materials and precursor materials.
- Proven experience taking technologies from lab research through scale-up and commercial production.
- Strong understanding of material synthesis, characterization, process development, and technology validation.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary scientific and technical R&D teams.
- Strong understanding of battery technologies and emerging materials for lithium-ion or next-generation batteries.
- PhD preferred; M.Tech/M.E. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related discipline will also be considered.
- Strong experience in technology roadmap development, R&D program management, commercialization, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent scientific, analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
