Scope of the Portfolio Valuation & Fund Advisory - Vice President:
As a Vice President in Portfolio Valuation & Fund Advisory Services practice, you will lead valuation engagements involving complex financial instruments and illiquid securities across diverse industries. You will work directly with senior stakeholders at leading hedge funds, private equity firms, and business development companies to deliver fair value opinions that meet regulatory, audit, and investor standards.
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for managing teams of Associates and Analysts, overseeing the full engagement lifecycle, reviewing technical deliverables, and directly contributing to client relationships and business development efforts. You will also collaborate with colleagues across the firm to support a range of financial and valuation advisory projects.

Responsibilities:
- Lead global valuation engagements for illiquid debt and equity securities held by alternative investment funds, supporting clients with fair value reporting and portfolio valuation requirements.
- Manage and mentor project teams of Associates and Analysts, providing technical guidance, training, performance feedback, and oversight to ensure accurate, high-quality deliverables.
- Engage with clients and their advisors, leading valuation discussions, scoping and pricing projects, and addressing audit, investor, and regulatory inquiries related to valuation analyses.
- Develop, review, and refine valuation models, including DCF, guideline public company, precedent transaction, and option pricing models, using Houlihan Lokey's proprietary tools and frameworks.
- Prepare and review client deliverables, including detailed valuation reports, presentations to boards of directors, and internal valuation review committee materials.
- Oversee the preparation of client proposals, engagement letters, and pricing memoranda in collaboration with Managing Directors.
- Conduct and supervise in-depth research on macroeconomic trends, industry dynamics, capital markets activity, and company-specific financial and operational performance.
- Participate in due diligence discussions, including management interviews, review of client-provided materials (investment memos, financial models, legal agreements), and coordination with third-party advisors.
- Ensure compliance with valuation standards, regulatory expectations, and firm methodologies.
- Contribute to the practice's strategic goals, including recruiting, training, methodology development, and client development initiatives.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- 6-10 years of relevant experience in valuation, financial advisory, investment banking, or transaction services, with direct exposure to private company, credit, and/or structured product valuation.
- Experience managing teams and reviewing the technical work of junior professionals.
- Strong understanding of alternative investment strategies and asset classes, including private equity, private credit, real estate, and structured finance.
- Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial analyses clearly and effectively to senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CFA charter holder, Chartered Accountant (CA), or equivalent designation (or in advanced progress).
- Deep expertise in financial modeling and valuation methodologies (DCF, market approaches, options models).
- Proficiency in data and research platforms such as Capital IQ, Bloomberg, Pitch Book, and Preqin.
- Familiarity with fair value accounting standards (ASC 820) and audit/auditor interaction best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of technical accuracy.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong client service orientation and commercial judgment.
- Prior experience in a Big Four, independent valuation firm, or investment banking advisory environment is a plus.
