Overview:
As the VP of Performance Marketing for a fast-growing consumer startup, you will serve as the strategic leader driving measurable customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth. This role demands a strong blend of analytical depth, technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and exceptional leadership to succeed in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategy Development:
- Build and implement a comprehensive performance marketing strategy across paid social, search, display, SEO, email, and affiliate channels.
- Align marketing plans with business growth targets, customer acquisition goals, and revenue objectives.
2. Campaign Management & Optimization:
- Lead execution and optimization of multi-channel campaigns with a strong focus on experimentation, A/B testing, and continuous improvement.
- Drive efficiency in spend while maximizing ROI and achieving performance KPIs.
3. Budget & Resource Management:
- Own the marketing budget, ensuring effective allocation across channels and initiatives.
- Negotiate and manage relationships with external agencies, tech partners, and vendors.
4. Data & Analytics:
- Leverage analytics platforms and data insights to evaluate performance, forecast demand, and identify growth opportunities.
- Present performance updates, insights, and recommendations to the leadership team with clarity and precision.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Product, Sales, Growth, and Data teams to ensure unified strategies across the customer journey.
- Support product development and sales strategies with relevant data, campaigns, and user behavior insights.
6. Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing performance marketing team.
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
7. Market & Competitive Analysis:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor strategies, emerging ad-tech, mar-tech tools, and digital innovations.
- Recommend new platforms, technologies, and opportunities to maintain a competitive advantage.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Success in this role will be measured through:
- Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)
- Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) and LTV:CAC ratio
- Funnel and channel-specific conversion rates
- Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS) & Return on Marketing Investment (ROMI)
- MAU/DAU and engagement metrics
- Customer churn and retention rates
- MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) or AOV (Average Order Value)
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience:
- 8+ years of proven experience in performance marketing, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Background in consumer, D2C, or growth-stage startup environments strongly preferred.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Marketing, Business, or related discipline; MBA preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise with Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, CRM tools (HubSpot, Salesforce), and marketing automation platforms.
- Strong understanding of attribution modeling, bidding strategies, tracking tools, and growth analytics.
Leadership & Strategic Skills:
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management capabilities.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on in execution.
