VP: Investments - Energy Transition & Deeptech VC
Location: Bengaluru
Experience: Minimum 6 years
Qualification: Engineering degree mandatory
Our client is a specialist VC fund investing in engineering-led businesses across energy transition, climate technology, advanced manufacturing and next-generation infrastructure.
The fund seeks a technically strong professional who understands how deeptech and hardware businesses are built and can develop into an end-to-end investor.
This is not a finance-only role. Engineering depth and hands-on experience building hardware products or manufacturing capabilities are mandatory. Equity-investment experience is strongly preferred but secondary to genuine technical and operating experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build investment theses across clean energy, storage, mobility, power electronics, hydrogen, advanced materials and industrial decarbonisation.
- Source opportunities through founders, engineering institutions, incubators, accelerators and industry networks.
- Evaluate technology, product architecture, IP, manufacturability and commercial scalability.
- Assess BOM economics, supply chains, capex, certifications, manufacturing readiness and scale-up risks.
- Conduct market research, customer validation, financial analysis, valuation and due diligence.
- Prepare investment memoranda and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.
- Support deal structuring, term-sheet negotiations, documentation and closure.
- Work with portfolio founders on product strategy, manufacturing scale-up, market access, partnerships and fundraising.
Candidate Requirements:
- Engineering degree from a strong institution.
- Minimum 6 years across deeptech, manufacturing, industrial R&D, hardware product development, energy technology or engineering-led startups.
- Must have directly built, commercialised or scaled a hardware product, manufacturing line or engineering-led business.
- Strong exposure to energy transition, clean mobility, storage, power electronics, renewable energy, hydrogen, advanced manufacturing or industrial technology.
- Ability to translate complex technical insights into commercial and investment decisions.
- Exposure to VC, corporate VC, strategic investments, family-office investments, M&A or equity transactions is strongly preferred.
- Comfortable working directly with founders in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment.
- Strong analytical, financial-modelling and communication skills.
- Pure financial investors, generalist SaaS/consumer investors, project-finance professionals and consultants without direct engineering, hardware or manufacturing experience will not be relevant.
