
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to lead and drive the overall Transformer Manufacturing business, with end-to-end accountability for P&L, production, quality, testing, maintenance, supply chain, capacity utilization, cost optimization, and operational excellence. The role will establish a high-performance, technology-enabled manufacturing ecosystem capable of delivering power and distribution transformers with the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery. It will also drive continuous improvement, capacity expansion, customer satisfaction, and sustainable business growth in line with the organizations strategic objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manufacturing Operations:
- Lead end-to-end manufacturing operations for power and distribution transformers.
- Manage production across core cutting, coil winding, core-coil assembly, tanking, and final assembly.
- Drive production planning, capacity utilization, productivity and manufacturing efficiency.
- Ensure timely production and dispatch aligned with project and customer requirements.
- Manage overall plant operations, manpower, equipment and infrastructure.
- Optimize plant capacity and identify bottlenecks for capacity enhancement.
- Drive lean manufacturing, automation, process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Ensure effective utilization of machinery, tooling and production resources.
Quality Management:
- Ensure adherence to approved drawings, specifications, codes and customer quality requirements.
- Establish robust quality control systems across winding, core assembly, tanking and finishing processes.
- Reduce rejection, rework and customer complaints.
- Coordinate with QA/QC and customer inspection teams for approvals and inspections.
Testing & Type Approvals:
- Oversee routine, type and special tests (impulse, temperature rise, short-circuit) as per IS/IEC standards.
- Ensure calibration and reliability of testing equipment and test-bay infrastructure.
- Coordinate third-party and customer witness testing for approvals and dispatch clearances.
Supply Chain & Inventory:
- Coordinate with procurement and SCM teams for timely availability of CRGO steel, copper/aluminium conductor, insulation materials and other components.
- Optimize raw material yield and minimize material wastage.
- Ensure effective inventory management and production sequencing.
Cost & Budget Management:
- Own manufacturing cost, conversion cost and productivity targets.
- Drive cost reduction through process optimization, material yield improvement, energy efficiency and manpower productivity.
- Prepare and monitor annual operating budgets and CAPEX requirements.
- Support the Business Unit Head in evaluating new capacity, technology and investment opportunities.
Team Leadership & People Development:
- Lead and develop a large manufacturing workforce comprising production, quality, testing, maintenance, PPC, stores and technical teams.
- Build a strong second line of leadership.
- Establish performance objectives and productivity metrics for key teams.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
Safety, Health & Environment:
- Ensure compliance with EHS requirements and statutory regulations.
- Drive zero-accident culture and implementation of safety systems.
- Ensure plant equipment, electrical systems and manufacturing processes comply with applicable standards.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics / Mechanical Engineering from a reputed institution.
