Job Overview:
We're looking for a seasoned Team Lead - US Tax & Accounting to join SelfDecode's finance leadership team. You'll drive our U.S. tax function end-to-end - overseeing planning, compliance, reporting, and strategic tax initiatives - while building and mentoring a high-performing team. This is a remote role with a competitive total compensation package of - 20-30 LPA, designed for someone with 5+ years of deep US tax and accounting experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Tax & Accounting Operations:
- Oversee preparation and review of individual (1040) and business (1120, 1120S, 1065, 990, 1041, 5471, FinCEN) tax returns
- Manage all accounting workflows in QuickBooks and other tools, ensuring every expense is captured accurately
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure full compliance with federal and state tax laws, deadlines, and estimated-tax payment requirements
- File business tax returns and R&D tax-credit claims on schedule
- Research changes in tax law and implement process updates to keep us ahead of compliance risks
Strategic Tax Planning:
- Develop and oversee our U.S. tax strategy -identifying new savings opportunities and optimizing structure across multiple legal entities
- Tailor tax-optimization strategies for a fast-growing B2B SaaS startup, with an eye toward a potential IPO or sale in the next 3-5 years
Client & Stakeholder Support:
- Assist internal teams and B2B customers with custom tax-document requests during onboarding
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, and Executive teams to align on financial reporting and strategic initiatives
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and guide a small team of tax accountants and bookkeepers
- Drive continuous improvement of workflows, documentation, and internal controls
Requirements:
Education & Certification:
- CA (Chartered Accountant) or CPA (US Certified Public Accountant)
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on US federal/state tax preparation and accounting in a corporate or public-practice environment
- Proven track record with individual and business returns (1040, 1120-series, 1065, 990, 1041, 5471, FinCEN)
- Experience preparing and filing R&D tax credits
- Strong background in QuickBooks (or similar ERP) and advanced tax-software proficiency
