Context : One in eight Indian children in the age group of 2- 9 years have a disability (such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disabilities, language delays, Down syndrome, and others). This extrapolates to over 50 million children with or at risk of disabilities in India. Childhood disability is a complex issue that cuts across multiple dimensions of family and society, including healthcare systems, education, community life and policy. There isn- t just one system that needs to be fixed, but many. Families and caregivers play a key role in the journey of a child with disability. They are not just the immediate ecosystem of the child, but also have to advocate for the child in the school, community, and sometimes even in the home. About Ummeed (www.ummeed.org) - In 19 years of its journey, Ummeed has provided clinical services to over 10,000 children and families (developmental pediatrician assessments and consults, occupational and physiotherapy, autism intervention, mental health services, testing, remedial services, and social work services). Its clinical work is complemented by training services that aim to build a network of trained medical and school professionals as well as community workers who can prevent, diagnose, and manage developmental disabilities effectively. Over the years, Ummeed has trained over 5000 trainees from across the country. Ummeed's awareness initiatives aim to change societal attitudes towards children with disabilities, and its research efforts help influence the academic community. - One of Ummeed's core values is Family Centered Care - respectful care that involves free sharing of information and working in collaborative teams that make decisions jointly. It is important for Ummeed that professionals and children with disabilities and their families work collaboratively, that there is implementation of the - nothing about us without us- slogan from UNCRPD... World-over, systemic changes in the disability space have been driven by empowered self-advocates (children, young adults, and families). In India, this movement is very new. - Towards this, Ummeed would like to create a model for a - Family Resource Center- a space where children and families can be who they are, a place which has ownership by families and is run by them, and which showcases partnership between families and professionals. Initially, this will be a virtual space, a series of processes that will make knowledge, services and support consistently accessible to families and caregivers, through other caregivers and through professionals. Over time, Ummeed would like to identify and equip a dedicated physical space from which the Family Resource Center can be run. About the Position - Manager/ Senior Manager, Family Resource Center The - Manager/ Senior Manager, Family Resource Center- position is a key role that will work closely with Ummeed's senior team in conceptualizing and operationalizing the Family Resource Center. This will include understanding Ummeed's current services with families, building on these to ensure services for families are coordinated and timely, recruiting other caregivers/ family members into the Family Resource Center team, putting in place systems and processes for this, ensuring accurate data capture and analysis. Reporting into Founder & Executive Director Roles and Responsibilities : The responsibilities of the Manager/ Senior Manager, Family Resource Center will include: 1. Develop and manage the operations for the Family Resource Center; i.e.,: - Co-think goals and future priorities with the senior team o Think through and implement processes for these goals and priorities - Track and report progress 2. Recruit other caregivers/ family members into the Family Resource Center core team 3. Partner with Ummeed's professionals to train new members of the Family Resource Center 4. Support Ummeed's current services for families, such as counselling sessions and social work services 5. Initially co-deliver and eventually independently deliver trainings for caregivers on topics such as rights, navigating the school system, etc. 6. Initially co-deliver and eventually independently facilitate activities for caregivers, such as fun clubs and family support groups 7. Implement ways for incorporating feedback and of children and families in the Family Resource Center services 8. Work closely with the monitoring & evaluation team to ensure accurate and up-to-date data collection, analysis, and reporting of emerging trends - Support donor management and engagement such as providing inputs for proposals and donor reports as well as supporting donor visits 9. Manage/ support implementation of awareness activities through the Family Resource Center and in collaboration with the communications team 10. Work closely with shared services teams such as HR, IT, Admin to ensure seamless operations for the Family Resource Center Minimum qualifications, Skills required : - Ummeed would prefer this role to be held by a parent/ caregiver of a child with disability. The person should be a post graduate with 8-10 years of project management (or similar) experience in a reputed organization. The person should be passionate about working in the social sector and willing to learn. Some key competencies for the role include: - Excellent project management skills (planning, executing, risk management, financial management) - Excellent interpersonal skills, including cooperation, collaboration, negotiation, and ability to work across diverse teams and stakeholders - Great oral and written communication skills, including communicating in Hindi/ Marathi/ both - Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills that involve a willingness to understand key issues and creatively resolve them - Willingness to learn about the sector and nuances of Ummeed's philosophy and values Why Ummeed?
