Job Title: Treaty Senior Underwriter

Location: Churchgate Mumbai

Experience required: 15 Yrs Experience

Qualification: Bachelors degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Law, or related field.

About the company: The Group is a Pioneer in reinsurance broking business in India, with extensions to other services like Direct Broking, Asset Valuation, Non Marine & Marine Survey, Risk Inspection, Protection Indemnity, Facilitating Actuarial Services (Non-Life & Life).

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting & Evaluation:


- Assess and underwrite treaty reinsurance proposals across various lines of business


- Evaluate technical pricing models, exposure data, and historical loss experience to determine appropriate terms and conditions.


- Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with internal guidelines, risk appetite, and regulatory frameworks.

Portfolio & Risk Analysis:


- Analyze risk portfolios and treaty structures to assess profitability, risk accumulation, and diversification.


- Collaborate with actuarial teams to review loss ratios, pricing adequacy, and profitability indicators.


- Monitor performance of existing treaties and recommend adjustments or renewals as required.

Market & Relationship Management:


- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedents, and reinsurance partners.


- Negotiate treaty terms, conditions, and pricing to achieve optimal outcomes for the company.


- Represent the company in market meetings, conferences, and negotiations.

Collaboration & Coordination:


- Work closely with actuarial, claims, and finance teams to assess exposure, loss trends, and reinsurance recoveries.


- Coordinate with operations and compliance teams to ensure documentation accuracy and adherence to underwriting standards.

Market Intelligence & Strategy:


- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks to inform underwriting strategy and business planning.


- Provide insights and recommendations on new products, markets, or treaty structures.

Reporting & Documentation:


- Prepare detailed underwriting reports, proposals, and presentations for management and internal stakeholders.


- Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, treaty terms, and portfolio performance.

Key Skills & Competencies:


- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.


- In-depth understanding of treaty reinsurance principles and market practices.


- Proficiency in analyzing loss data, exposure models, and actuarial outputs.


- Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.


- Strong communication and presentation abilities.


- Attention to detail with a structured, data-driven approach.


- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and functions.
