Role Overview:
The Head of Lower School- PYP is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the overall academic and operational management of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) within the lower school. This role involves working closely with teachers, students, parents, and the school's leadership team to ensure the effective implementation of the PYP framework, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and promoting student success. The Head of Lower School- PYP directly impacts the learning experiences and developmental growth of young learners, shaping their foundational years of education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation and ongoing development of the PYP curriculum within the lower school, ensuring alignment with IB standards and best practices.
- Mentor and support teachers in their understanding and application of the PYP framework, promoting effective teaching strategies and inquiry-based learning.
- Oversee the assessment and reporting processes for lower school students, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic development of all students.
- Collaborate with parents to build strong home-school partnerships, ensuring open communication and shared responsibility for student success.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the lower school, including scheduling, resource allocation, and student discipline.
- Develop and implement professional development programs for lower school teachers, enhancing their skills and knowledge in PYP pedagogy and best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the PYP program, using data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant school policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
- Represent the lower school at school-wide events and meetings, advocating for the needs of students and teachers.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of educators, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Deep understanding of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework and its implementation in a school setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach teachers, enhancing their pedagogical skills and knowledge.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Master's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
- Adaptability to work on-site in Bangalore, fostering a strong presence within the school community.
