Job Summary:
The Compliance Officer will support the company's export control, customs and ethic & trade compliance program by ensuring adherence to Indian and international trade and ethics regulations (including but not limited to SCOMET, US EAR and ITAR). The Export Compliance Specialist will drive compliance strategy, manage regulatory changes, and serve as a subject matter expert while collaborating cross-functionally to align compliance efforts with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with Indian export control laws (SCOMET) and U.S. regulations (EAR, ITAR).
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes, updating internal policies accordingly.
- Classify products and technologies accurately under relevant export control regimes.
Program Development & Strategy:
- Develop and implement a robust export compliance program.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate compliance gaps.
- Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Licensing & Documentation:
- Prepare and submit export license applications and related documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of export transactions and compliance activities.
Training & Awareness:
- Deliver training sessions to internal teams on export control requirements and ethical trade practices.
- Promote a culture of compliance across departments.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with legal, supply chain, engineering, and sales teams to align compliance with business goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for government agencies such as BIS and DDTC.
Ethics & Integrity:
- Uphold ethical standards in trade practices and ensure compliance with anti-corruption laws.
- Investigate and report suspected violations in accordance with company and regulatory protocols.
Qualifications:
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of or willingness to learn export control and trade compliance regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with export compliance software is a plus but not required. (e.g., SAP, or similar tools)
- Demonstrated project management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
