Role Overview:
As the Maintenance Head - Retail Stores, you will be responsible for ensuring all The Sleep Company stores across India are well-maintained, safe, compliant, and operating efficiently. This role involves preventive and reactive maintenance, vendor management, budgeting, and ensuring minimal downtime across stores.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Store Maintenance & Upkeep:
- Oversee all maintenance activities (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, signage, lighting, and general repairs) across retail stores.
- Establish preventive maintenance schedules for each store to minimize breakdowns.
- Ensure stores maintain the brand's visual and functional standards.
2. Vendor & AMC Management:
- Identify, onboard, and manage regional maintenance vendors and service providers.
- Negotiate service level agreements (SLAs) and monitor adherence.
- Track and manage all Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs).
3. Budgeting & Cost Control:
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets and track spending across zones.
- Optimize maintenance costs without compromising on quality and safety.
- Approve invoices and maintain transparency in vendor billing and payments.
4. Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure stores comply with local fire safety, electrical, and structural norms.
- Conduct periodic audits to assess store safety and maintenance conditions.
- Work with the design and projects team during new store openings to ensure handover readiness.
5. Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Build and manage a central and zonal maintenance team.
- Coordinate with Retail Operations, Projects, and Admin for seamless store experience.
- Set clear KPIs (response time, resolution time, cost per store) and track performance.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of retail infrastructure, HVAC, and building maintenance systems.
- Excellent vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and crisis management abilities.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance software or CMMS tools.
- Good understanding of safety, fire, and statutory compliance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Civil) or related field.
- 8-12 years of experience in facility or maintenance management, preferably in a multi-store retail setup (FMCG, Apparel, QSR, or Furniture).
- Experience in scaling maintenance operations across geographies is a plus.
