About The Sleep Company:

The Sleep Company is one of India's fastest-growing comfort-tech and consumer brands, with a business spanning manufacturing, retail, supply chain and a rapidly expanding omnichannel presence.

With revenues exceeding 1,000 crore, the Company operates across multiple product categories and channels and is building a strong foundation for its next phase of scale and profitability.

As the organisation continues to grow, procurement will play an increasingly strategic role in driving cost competitiveness, supply assurance, quality, innovation and operational efficiency.

We are looking for an experienced and high-calibre Head of Central Procurement to build and lead a world-class central procurement function.

Role Overview:

The Head of Central Procurement will be responsible for leading the Company's overall procurement strategy and operations across Direct and Indirect Procurement, with an annual procurement spend of approximately 500-600 crore.

The role will work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Product, Retail, Finance, Technology, Marketing and other business functions to ensure that the organisation receives the right quality, service and value at the most competitive total cost.

This is a highly strategic and cross-functional leadership role.

The individual will be expected to move procurement beyond transactional purchasing and build a strong, data-driven and commercially oriented procurement organisation focused on:

- Cost optimisation and productivity

- Supplier development and relationship management

- Supply continuity and risk management

- Procurement governance and controls

- Working capital and payment optimisation

- Standardisation and demand aggregation

- Process digitisation and automation

The role will report to the Chief Financial Officer / Senior Leadership, with significant interaction across the leadership team and business heads.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Procurement Strategy and Leadership:

- Develop and implement a comprehensive central procurement strategy aligned with the Company's growth, profitability and operational objectives.

- Build a strong centralised procurement organisation covering both Direct and Indirect spend categories.

- Define the right procurement operating model, including category ownership, sourcing processes, delegation of authority and governance mechanisms.

- Develop annual procurement objectives and productivity targets linked to business and financial goals.

- Build a high-performing procurement team with strong capabilities in sourcing, negotiations, category management and supplier management.

- Establish procurement as a strategic business partner rather than merely a transactional purchasing function.

2. Direct Procurement:

- Lead the procurement of all key materials and services required for manufacturing and product operations.

- Strategic sourcing of raw materials, components, packaging and other direct materials.

- Developing a deep understanding of material cost structures and key cost drivers.

- Identifying opportunities for cost reduction through negotiations, alternate sourcing, value engineering and supplier development.

- Working closely with Product, R&D and Manufacturing teams on new product development and material innovation.

- Developing alternate vendors and reducing supplier concentration risks.

- Driving long-term sourcing strategies for critical and strategic materials.

- Managing commodity price movements and developing appropriate procurement strategies to mitigate volatility.

- Ensuring the right balance between cost, quality, service levels and supply continuity.

- Driving vendor consolidation where appropriate while maintaining adequate supply resilience.

3. Indirect Procurement:

- Lead the procurement of indirect goods and services across the organisation, including categories such as manufacturing and factory-related services, capital expenditure and equipment, logistics and transportation, warehousing, retail and store-related expenditure, facilities and administration, IT and technology, professional and consulting services, marketing and other business services, and other operating expenditure categories.

- Bring greater visibility and control over the Company's indirect spend.

- Identify opportunities for spend consolidation and standardisation.

- Implement strategic sourcing processes for major expenditure categories.

- Drive competitive bidding and benchmarking.

- Develop preferred supplier arrangements and framework agreements.

- Ensure commercial discipline and value-for-money across all major spend categories.

4. Cost Optimisation and Value Creation:

- Challenge existing specifications and buying practices to eliminate unnecessary costs.

- Work with internal stakeholders to drive standardisation and demand optimisation.

- Track, validate and report procurement savings through robust governance mechanisms.

- Ensure that cost savings are sustainable and do not compromise quality, customer experience or business continuity.

- The role should have a strong Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) mindset rather than focusing only on purchase price.

5. Supplier Relationship and Performance Management:

- Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers and partners.

- Establish a robust supplier segmentation and management framework.

- Drive periodic performance reviews covering cost, quality, delivery, service and innovation.

- Build strategic partnerships with critical suppliers.

- Develop and maintain a strong vendor pipeline for key categories.

- Drive supplier capability improvement and innovation.

- Ensure timely resolution of commercial and operational issues with suppliers.

- Conduct periodic supplier risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.

6. Procurement Governance, Processes and Controls:

- Establish strong procurement policies, processes and controls across the organisation.

- Define appropriate sourcing and bidding processes based on the nature and value of procurement.

- Ensure transparency, competitiveness and fairness in vendor selection.

- Strengthen approval processes and commercial governance.

- Ensure adequate separation of duties between demand generation, procurement, receipt and payment processes.

- Develop clear policies around vendor onboarding, vendor evaluation and conflict-of-interest management.

- Work closely with Finance, Internal Audit and other relevant teams to strengthen procurement controls.

- Ensure compliance with all applicable internal policies and statutory requirements.

7. Working Capital and Commercial Optimisation:

- Establish category-wise cost and supplier analytics.

- Use data to identify opportunities for consolidation, savings and process improvement.

- Drive digitisation and automation of procurement processes.

- Work with Technology and Finance teams to strengthen procurement systems and integration with ERP platforms.

- Build meaningful MIS and dashboards for senior management.

9. Key Stakeholder Management:

- This role will require exceptional stakeholder management capabilities.

- The Head of Central Procurement will work closely with senior leaders across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Product and R&D, Retail, Finance, Marketing, Technology, HR and Administration, and Founders and Senior Leadership.

- The individual must be able to influence senior stakeholders while constructively challenging existing practices and driving commercially sound decisions.
