Job Description:

As a Consultant Operational Compliance, you will support ERMs global consulting delivery by contributing to the design, implementation, and management of operational compliance programs, supporting governance, and helping clients manage regulatory and operational risk.

You will work within the Safe & Sustainable Operations (SSO) service line, partnering with global consultants to deliver digitally enabled compliance solutions, regulatory reporting, and managed compliance services.

This role involves supporting stakeholders, contributing to workstream delivery, and translating compliance obligations into practical solutions, while also supporting the development of the CDH-SSO team.

What your impact is:

- Support US team on operational compliance, environmental permitting, audit readiness, compliance engagements, including diagnostics, gap assessments, and implementation support.

- Support translating regulatory requirements into procedures, and support governance improvements that strengthen compliance performance through QA/QC frameworks.

- Manage a workstream or support multiple workstreams, while maintaining quality, budget, and timeline commitments.

- Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders and cross-functional teams across operations, risk, legal, sustainability, and HSE.

- Support the CDH-SSO team by coaching CL1 and CL1S through project delivery, onboarding, and learning initiatives.

What will you bring:

- Bachelors or Masters degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered.

- Typically, 5+ years of relevant experience in consulting, operational compliance, regulatory compliance, environmental management, or a related advisory role.

- Experience in operational compliance, EHS, or sustainability consulting, with strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational requirements across air, water, waste, chemicals, reporting, due diligence, impact assessment, and remediation.

- Ability to support workstreams, proposals, and projects while managing scope, risk, and quality.

- Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs within a QA/QC framework.

- Strong analytical skills to translate regulatory complexity into structured, actionable solutions.

- Experience working with global teams, diverse industries, and cross-functional stakeholders, with strong collaboration and communication skills.

- Experience with compliance platforms such as legal registers, compliance calendars, obligation trackers, Enablon, or Sphera.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:

- PhD or masters degree in environmental management, sustainability, EHS, environmental policy, or a related field.

- Experience in operational compliance, EHS auditing, regulatory reporting, permitting, or emissions calculations.

- Experience using digital, automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve compliance delivery.

- Working knowledge of US- NA/EMEA region, multi-state, or international EHS regulatory frameworks.

- Professional certifications or training such as CEP, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or equivalent is preferred but not necessary.

- Experience working in global delivery or large consulting teams, with good business sense and the ability to work well in tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support operational and environmental compliance work, including permitting, compliance checks, and spotting risks across air, water, waste, chemicals, and safety.

- Apply US (NA and EMEA) and international EHS rules, such as the Clean Air Act, RCRA, Clean Water Act/NPDES, SPCC, EPCRA, etc., relevant state and international regulations, and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards.

- Help deliver projects by managing scope, schedule, resources, risks, and quality, and by supporting clear team and client expectations.

- Carry out QA/QC reviews of deliverables, track corrective actions, and support improvement through SOPs, templates, and best practices.

- Set up and support compliance platforms and digital tools, and build dashboards, trackers, and reports for compliance processes.

- Build stakeholder relationships, present deliverables, support proposals, and help grow Operational Compliance services.

- Mentor and support analysts and junior consultants, including CL1S, CL1 team members, through project work, onboarding, learning, and knowledge sharing.
