We are seeking a Technical Lead with extensive expertise in rugged power electronics and DC UPS systems for defense, rail, aerospace, industrial, and telecom applications.
A key requirement is hands-on design and delivery experience of at least one MIL-grade power supply, including EMI filter design, magnetic & thermal design, loop stability (Bode plots), MTBF/DFMEA reliability studies, and full compliance with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1275, and MIL-STD-810.
This role combines deep technical design with cross-functional leadership, customer interaction, and support for certification and compliance processes.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Architecture
- Work closely with Marketing teams to capture and drive technical requirements for UPS and inverter products.
- Develop power electronics products including power and analog circuitry, magnetics, and control blocks from concept through to manufacture.
- Use a modular design approach to maximize reusability, efficiency, and scalability.
- Develop overall system architecture and ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Align resources and ensure smooth implementation of design plans.
Power Electronics & Component Selection
- Design high-reliability Mil Grade AC-DC and DC-DC Power supply ,Rectifiers and High Wattge AC DC UPS systems .
- Select and qualify power semiconductors (IGBTs, MOSFETs, GaN, SiC) and MIL-spec/AEC-Q200 passive components.
- Balance trade-offs between efficiency, thermal performance, EMI, and ruggedness.
- Perform MTBF/DFMEA, derating, and worst-case stress analysis.
EMI/EMC & Standards Compliance
- Design input/output EMI filters (common-mode, differential-mode, Pi/T/LC).
- Ensure compliance with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-810, CISPR, and IEC standards.
- Participate in standards bodies to track/drive evolving requirements.
- Work with certification agencies (BIS, UL, MIL, IEC) to achieve product approvals.
Magnetics, Thermal & PCB Design
- Design custom transformers, inductors, and chokes using FEMM, ANSYS Maxwell, or Magnetics Designer.
- optimize for thermal stability, EMI reduction, and compact rugged construction.
- Perform/Analyze thermal simulations (Icepak, Flotherm, SolidWorks Flow) to validate cooling strategies.
- Lead multi-layer PCB design for high-current rugged UPS systems, ensuring signal/power integrity and EMI robustness.
Testing, Verification & Reliability
- Lead prototype design, testing, and validation of rugged UPS products.
- Define, document, and execute developmental and compliance tests with formal verification teams.
- Conduct Bode plot stability testing (FRA/Omicron Bode 100).
- Perform failure analysis on faulty products, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
- Use oscilloscopes, power analyzers, LISNs, and spectrum analyzers for testing and debugging.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical direction on best practices.
- Interface with customers to understand future needs and emerging technologies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate reliability issues.
- Prepare and present detailed design reports, improvements, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Power Electronics
- 15+ years in rugged power electronics, UPS, and MIL-grade power supply design
Preferred Qualifications
