Role Overview:

The Director of Clinical Documentation will oversee and enhance the organization's clinical documentation processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with industry and regulatory standards.

This leadership role requires strong clinical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare and technology teams.

The Director will play a key role in improving the quality of patient care documentation and ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Documentation Oversight:

- Lead and manage end-to-end clinical documentation processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

- Oversee the development, review, and continuous improvement of clinical documentation workflows.

- Ensure alignment of documentation with best practices in medical, behavioral health, and clinical compliance frameworks.

Leadership & Team Management:

- Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and performance oversight to documentation teams.

- Establish high-quality standards and ensure team alignment with organizational goals.

- Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within the documentation unit.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

- Conduct regular audits to ensure clinical records meet accreditation and regulatory requirements.

- Identify gaps, root causes, and trends in documentation quality and implement corrective actions.

- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to healthcare documentation policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work closely with physicians, clinicians, behavioral health teams, and administrative personnel to maintain consistency in documentation standards.

- Partner with IT and operational teams to enhance digital documentation tools and systems.

- Support interdisciplinary efforts to improve patient care outcomes through enhanced documentation quality.

Process Improvement & Strategy:

- Develop strategies to improve documentation accuracy, efficiency, and workflow integration.

- Stay updated with evolving industry standards, policies, and best practices in clinical documentation.

- Champion initiatives that enhance the organization's documentation maturity and clinical excellence.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Bachelor's or Masters degree in Medicine, Behavioral Health, Psychology, Nursing, or related clinical field.

- Proven experience in clinical supervision and managing clinical documentation operations.

- Strong understanding of mental health, behavioral health, and medical documentation requirements.

- Demonstrated leadership experience within a healthcare or clinical setting.

- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal leadership skills.

Preferred:

- Medical or clinical certification in documentation, coding, or compliance.

- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare or managed care environments
