Position Overview

Job Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the company operations in the assigned region. The role involves managing direct and indirect tax obligations, supporting tax audits, advising on tax risks, and ensuring compliance with local and international tax regulations. The Tax Manager will collaborate closely with finance, legal, and business teams to deliver accurate and timely tax outcomes aligned with the company global tax strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tax Compliance & Reporting:

- Manage and oversee timely filing of all direct and indirect tax returns (corporate income tax, GST/VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing, etc.).

- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of tax computations in compliance with applicable local tax laws.

- Coordinate with external tax advisors and tax authorities on compliance-related matters.

- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impact on company operations.

2. Tax Planning & Advisory:

- Provide tax advisory support on business transactions, contracts, and cross-border activities.

- Identify tax optimization opportunities while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

- Support implementation of global tax strategies including BEPS Pillar Two (GloBE) and transfer pricing policies.

- Advise internal stakeholders on tax implications of business decisions and operational changes.

3. Transfer Pricing:

- Prepare and maintain transfer pricing documentation in accordance with OECD guidelines and local requirements.

- Manage Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) and related obligations.

- Support intercompany pricing reviews and benchmarking analyses.

4. Tax Audits & Controversy Management:

- Manage tax audits, assessments, and disputes with tax authorities.

- Coordinate with legal counsel and external advisors on litigation and dispute resolution.

- Prepare and maintain audit-ready documentation and responses.

- Track and report status of open tax assessments and contingent liabilities.

5. Financial Reporting & Tax Provisions:

- Prepare current and deferred tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP / IFRS.

- Support quarterly and year-end financial close activities related to tax.

- Review effective tax rate (ETR) computations and provide variance analysis.

- Ensure accurate tax disclosures in financial statements.

6. Governance, Controls & Risk Management:

- Maintain strong internal controls over tax processes in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.

- Develop and maintain tax risk registers and governance documentation.

- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and global tax governance framework.

7. Stakeholder Management & Team Leadership:

- Partner with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Business Operations teams on tax-related matters.

- Mentor and guide junior tax professionals within the team.

- Liaise with regional controllers and GBS shared service centers on tax data requirements.

- Support Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) due diligence and integration activities from a tax perspective.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field (required).

- Professional certification: Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent (preferred).

- Postgraduate degree in Taxation or International Tax (advantageous).

Experience:

- Minimum 7 - 10 years of progressive tax experience in a multinational corporation or Big 4 advisory firm.

- Proven experience managing direct and indirect tax compliance in India.

- Strong background in transfer pricing, international tax, and cross-border transactions.

- Experience with tax provisions under US GAAP or IFRS.

- Exposure to BEPS, Pillar Two (GloBE) framework, and evolving international tax standards.

Skills & Competencies

- Technical Tax Expertise: Deep knowledge of Indian direct/indirect tax laws, transfer pricing, and international tax treaties.

- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and apply it to business scenarios.

- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication with senior stakeholders and tax authorities.

- Leadership: Capable of managing and developing a team of tax professionals.

- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in tax calculations, filings, and financial reporting.

- Business Acumen: Understanding of the oil and gas / technology services sector is an advantage.

- Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in SAP, tax software tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions

- Office-based with hybrid working arrangements as applicable.

- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

- Ability to work across time zones in a global matrixed organization.
